I previously made a thread here about alternative front-ends for Android and Squawker was among the ones I listed. It is an open-source Twitter front-end for Android, but sadly it stopped working that day because of the usual Elon changes to the website.

Today it just got an update on F-Droid and it works again!

I share the same feelings. I just find it unfortunate that people try to turn it into a religious X vs (obviously) Mastodon fight, completely dismissing the fact that there is content that just isn’t on Mastodon yet. My use-case is mainly stock market squawk (short trading headlines, which one can then verify with a Google search, immensely useful for retail traders who can’t afford a Bloomberg terminal or a Benzinga subscription). I’m sure there are others who find value in some type of content that’s on Twitter/X/whatever and that’s just impossible to find on Mastodon right now. Dismissing that is just being unrealistic.

So for those like me who still need to follow certain Twitter accounts, an app like Squawker is a lifesaver.

I don’t use either, but aren’t there Twitter to Mastodon bridges that will sync posts. Surely if Nitter can get around the API restrictions, the bridges can too.

Anyone who just wants content, never mind the ethical outcomes of continued presence in a billionaires plaything to amplify rightwing voices

I can understand big content creators who built up a big following, but other than them, I don’t have a single clue

Nice to see it back up (for now).

I’ve been very slowly finding different places to get what I use Twitter for. But as you noted in other comments, there are some things I haven’t been able to move yet.

My Twitter feed is mainly comic book art posts now, so nothing earth shattering to lose. But it was it was nice to just do that scroll again. This is the only way I’ll interact on Twitter now, so if this goes, I’m out too.

Twitter( or whatever they want to call it now or in 2 months) needs to die. There are better options for users and content creators then praying every day that the billionaire doesn’t get another idea.

This should make following the trans activist I follow a bit easier. Just glad I don’t need to use X directly
