An Atlanta prosecutor on Thursday asked a judge to begin the Georgia election interference trial for Donald Trump and 18 other defendants on Oct. 23.

The scheduling request by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis came a day after one of Trump’s co-defendants, attorney Kenneth Chesebro, filed a demand for a speedy trial in the county Superior Court.

Willis directly cited Chesebro’s demand in her filing Thursday.

And that is a 100% reasonable start date. There is absolutely no point in delaying, and two months is plenty of time for the attorneys to review the pertinent evidence. Trump’s lawyers will definitely try to argue that they need years to review everything, but that is 100% bullshit. The evidence - the text messages, the phone calls, the fraudulent elector certifications, etc. - simply aren’t very complicated to go through. They’re not.

    October 23rd should be a slam-dunk.

I would go further and say it’s Trump’s basic right to have a speedy trial. And I’m sure as an innocent defendant Trump will be happy with such a reasonable time frame. (/s just in case it’s not obvious that I know that Trump will try to drag this until he can avoid consequences)

Exactly. Defendants have the right to a speedy trial, not a long one. There is no legitimate reason to delay it.

I read it as Oct 23rd, 2024, so right during the run up to the election. It is not like he is doing anything else around that time, right?

Fuck yes. Finally, one before the primaries.

I kinda want him convicted after the primaries. I want the Republicans stuck with a nominee literally in State prison for the General.

Too bad it won’t make a lick of dielfference, and probably will bolster the opinions of the cult members.

Is there anything to ‘un-bolster’ or can we say that these people are indeed a cult and cannot be reasoned with and are solidly stuck in their commitment. A cult is perfectly capable of bolstering themselves, they need no help.

People outside that cult should try and stop entertaining the idea that they will potentially get worse by your actions or ideas. Cult ideology should never stop you in pursuing your own ideals and thoughts. They certainly will not be.

Sadly, I think the only thing that could make them stop supporting Trump is if he died. Even then, I’m not sure they’d stop. Some would move on to whatever politician was able to emulate Trump the best. Others would insist that Trump’s not really dead, that he’d magically return after having destroyed the Deep State, and that we should elect him as our Forever President until he returns.

The E. That trial date is currently set for January 15th, the same day as the Iowa caucus.

Did I miss it in the article where the clarified whether that was Oct. 23rd, 2023, or Oct. 23rd 2024? That seems like a pretty important distinction.

Delaying these trails push us ever closer to a constitutional crisis and “civil war.” I say civil war that way because red states are delusional if they think they could ever meaningfully rise up again. It was possible 200 years ago because information traveled slowly. In today’s world red states would lose all major cities and military bases instantly.

Things are definitely different. We aren’t in some era where war is like twenty guys shooting muskets at each other.

Any state trying to break off would find their guard refusing to go along with it and the leaders of the state arrested. If the governor himself can be personally arrested nothing is going to happen.
