I don’t think I’m qualified to have an opinion one way or another on this specific one, but there’s a conversation out there around “Are all stereotypes racist?” mostly thinking along the lines of positive stereotypes.
The main popular idea is that if I say “X race is smart” that implies that other races are not smart, but then the counterpoint is that with that statement you may have invalidated the idea of compliments altogether because you can apply that logic as broadly as you want outside the bounds of race and expand it to any person/group. There’s also the idea of whether or not something has to be negative to be racist and even going from there… where does subjective opinion come in? I.e., if we assume it has to be negative to be racist, how much should we consider the opinion on that negativity from the initiator and also the observer of the potential racism?
