House Speaker Mike Johnson is conveniently sending Congress home the day before the Justice Department is supposed to release the Epstein files in full. The announcement came Wednesday night.
This looks like yet another instance of Johnson doing every little thing he can either to delay the release of the files or to make it so that his fellow GOPers don’t have to be in town to answer to their complicity in this monthslong campaign to avoid their release—as he did by egregiously delaying the swearing-in of Democratic Representative Adelita Grijalva for weeks.
Gee mike, why is the Epstein Files coverup so important to you?
It’s like he’s fighting for his life.
This guy is not interested in actually running the House, he needs to be removed from the Speakership.
Now he gets to say that he doesn’t know anything about them.
Johnson doesn’t know anything about nothin’, and that’s final! Cya next year suckers.
I’ve never quite understood why the speaker of the house can do this. Say (hypothetically, not that this would happen) a majority of members wanted to bring it back in session. Could they just form a quorum and do it? Or would that require appointing a new speaker?

They don’t have to do this to block the release because the Epstein Files Transparency Act gives Trump and Bondi the authority on what to release.
