You cant. They just shut down the server and removed the unlocker app from their site. Maybe, just maybe, they will release a “rewritten version” in the coming months according to some guy on xda who asked them.

This shit is the last asus product Im buying for a loong time if ever.

I had been considering buying a Zenfone. No longer.

Why does it need an app and a server? What’s wrong with a toggle in dev settings and fastboot oem unlock?

They just cut their commercial division, right? Why on earth would you consider jumping into bed with a company that basically just made public that they won’t support you soon?

They’re actually continuing both phone lines. The long term support isn’t amazing but the zenphone line isn’t going away and will continue to be supported

I like the form factor, the specs, and the price. Haven’t really followed the news or the company much though

Afaik asus is the only one with an audio jack, and as we all know, a phone without an aux is an unusable piece of shit

There’s Sony’s Xperia line, they’re just prohibitively expensive in comparison

The Poco X5 Pro also has an audio jack and custom ROMs, phones without ROMs are unusable tbh.

wtf! I was actually thinking to buy zenfone 10 when it comes out because of the small form factor but now it looks like I gotta stick with my redmi k20 pro.

You weren’t getting another Zen Phone anyway. They gutted the entire team because it didn’t make money.

That was a misunderstanding- the zenphone line will still be a thing, as will the rog phone line. Both are continuing and will be supported same as they would be previously. There was a post on one of the android lemmy communities, maybe both, with the official statement from Asus

Let’s see how that goes for them with restructuring and reducing the team significantly. It might be branded a zenfone, but it isn’t going to be the same as the last 2.

The answer to the Zenphone bootloader unlock article from a few days ago sure came to a conclusion faster than we think: it turns out they are actually ending bootloader unlock by shutting down Zenfones for consumers altogether. (Edit: just saw the release that says they are not ending production. Oops.)

Which goes back again to my point in that thread: Low level sources working inside a big company aren’t reliable at all, not because of any bad intents, but because executive decision travels slowly inside big companies.

From other articles online that already have the direct links to the APKs I was just able to download the unlock APK for the zenfone 10 from an asus website.

Also would like a source on this as I can’t find any corroborating information.

There is no info on zenfone 8 and 9 as they conveniently left that out. There is no APK on the download page for zenfone 8 or 9, neither can you use the APK already downloaded. See one of the newest XDA threads on Zenfone 8.
