This is what yhe 2nd amendment is for. So we can protect ourselves from the tyranny of this fascist government. The government is shoot innocent people in the street. We can make them think twice on a case by case basis if we have the ability to return fire.

It’s nice of him to put the massive suppressor on it.

To help with the noise pollution.

I know suppressors don’t make things silent, but a 12 ga is pretty loud and you might not always have a chance to put on ear protection so maybe it’s a compromise to help with hearing?

        I suspect it’s for intimidation.

        “Tacti-cool” gear.

But he said he wanted to have a bigger gun than the other guy, and this is a great way to do it.

I just did a quick Google and didn’t find any instances of Black Panthers ever opening fire on cops.

Obviously that’s barely research but it’s good odds that it happened few enough times that it will take more more than 30s to find.

To be clear, I’m on their side. I think adding peripherals to the guns to make them more intimidating is the exact kind of thing that will work on bullies.

I just was entertained by it all. Getting down to the level of “big gun scarier than small gun” because they’re trying to communicate to really dumb, macho assholes.

Could be taken to mean that they’re actually effective, and none of the pigs were ever brave enough to fuck with them. Optimistic interpretation, anyway. I’m hoping that’s the case and it’ll still be true today, fingers crossed.

That’s a flash suppressor. It doesn’t make the gun quieter but if you’re in the dark, it makes it harder for your target to see the muzzle flashes and zero in on you.

That does lend some credence to the idea that it’s just there to make the gun bigger.

Presumably the aim is that the gun doesn’t even get pointed at anyone, let alone fired.

No side wants that gun to get used. It’s there for intimidation and messaging, and by Jove it’s doing just that. We need more organized groups observing with their 2nd Amendment rights.

Lot of people willing to kill others and get paid. Lot less people willing to die for that paycheck.

Make em think twice before pulling a weapon.

Armed minorities are harder to oppress.

I’m so conflicted by this. On the one hand it’s incredible that these people are taking a stand and protecting people. On the other hand, the fascist regime is trying to bait people into a violent response so they can start the insurrection act -> martial law -> no more electrons process.

well you can stand up, or sit down and let the fascists do it anyway. it’s coming either way, so either do something, or stay out of the way so other people can stand up for your rights for you.

I get this, and I lean heavily toward armed show of unity of the people. I really hope also that there is a secret left resistance coalition in the military and of all of the discarded generals and higher ups aren’t just sitting around with their thumbs in their asses.

However, this is a very different context than almost any other revolution (outside of in China maybe, but those have not gone well)

The federal state has the processing power and surveillance to literally track down anyone in the US within a week or so if the person is in public, and within a very short time if they have a phone. This has already been shown by the use of Palantir and Flock to coordinate ICE raids and select and track targets, and ICE are untrained complete idiots. If the military gets involved that is much easier.

Public opinion now matters 10x more than it did 50 years ago and when the last panthers were active. The government can easily put down a movement of a few hundred people if they become a problem, unlike previously. Israel has shown this by systematically smart bombing and assassinating all journalists that weren’t caught in carpet bombing.

But if you have 1 million people in a city, united, and 50 million people across the country, that is how regimes fall. If the government targets them, then others will support them instead of backing down. They have to tread very carefully and have a lot of restraint and good community programs and marketing to win community and public support, because otherwise it will be a blip on the news radar if they get murdered.

I’m conflicted too, but they’re going to do that anyway. If nothing violent happens to resist them, they’re going to make up some bullshit before the election and blow something out of proportion and invoke it anyway, so I don’t think it’s a big deal if the violence happens to them first.

Stokely Carmichael immediately expelled every non-black member of the SNCC when he became president. The 10 Point Program demands rights and reparations for “black people” specifically and explicitly repeated in every single one of the points, it even mentions “black neighborhoods” and “black communities” in its goals. Huey P. Newton wanted all black servicemen in Vietnam to be in separate units. Bobby Seale expressed disappointment in the results of the Civil Rights Movement, although admittedly Seale was at least not a fan of Segregation of schools which I cannot say for the other members.

I’m serious about this, I’m tired of people pretending the BPP were some sort of leftist group fighting for equality. That’s not what they are, or were. They saw that people were being oppressed, including people like themselves, and their solution was to isolate themselves and bunker down from the threat of the outside world.

MLK Jr fought for Equality. I fight for equality. BPP fight for supremacy.
