For example this post:

Shows like this in Sync:

Ideally I’d like to show a thumbnail without grabbing the whole video.

Open to all suggestions!

Cheers, lj

The first frame of the video with a ▶️ sign would be the best, in my opinion.

If that’s not possible, just a play sign would be OK.

A little play icon might be nice, and then download the video once you’re actually on the page.

While on the topic, please also add support for still images hosted at redgifs (typically i.redgifs.com if I recall)

I think a generic play icon to indicate it’s a video would be fine.

Is it possible to grab the first few hundred kb and grab a frame?

Otherwise I’d say a play button that indicates it’s from catbox and whatever metadata you can grab like file size or length.

I tried this sadly but it seems to require at least a few mb to create a frame!

In that case, maybe add a setting? For users without data limitations, and especially with the relatively rare occurrence of catbox links, a couple megabytes here and there isn’t a big deal. Otherwise, as others have said, a generic play button is perfectly acceptable too.

Just use a generic thumbnail with a play button.
Since it should be one that immediately and intuitively tells the user “this video is hosted on catbox.moe”, I suggest this:
