I’m looking to switch from Google Photos to an alternative. Looked into Immich and Ente already, which have quite some reviews online. But have found little about Zeitkapsl. Anyone here have some experience?

Yes, no issues. Sync is fast, usually my connection is limit. They have separate folder: photos and archive (where I store any other files).

I suppose that’s because they’re relatively new (one year or so?).

I switched a couple of months ago from Google Photos. They have a guide how to do the export/import, took a couple hours for my library of 20 GB. The app is basic (no face grouping or magic eraser), and the sync of new photos takes a while. They’re very active with new features and improving the product though, you can take a look at their Mastodon account to follow the developments.

All in all I’m nowhere near a heavy user and it provides the basics which is providing automatic backups without a fuss so I’m happy with it.

Thanks for your review, I saw they have a developer roadmap as well which showed some nice features for the future. With a young company like this, I hope they make it and don’t go bust down the road.

Putting stuff on the internet you should always assume sooner or later, this will be publicly available.

That’s it, the rule of Internet

Sure, but whatever the method they use or how ever your app works, it’s only temporary. You have no control of the future of what said company does, or laws they have to follow.

I’m just saying the internet should not be considered private if privacy is your concern.

The company and servers, yes. Devs / Owners are from India I believe.

Which changes nothing, because as American company they have to follow American law, which also includes access to servers if needed. It’s just EU-washing by them

Really ? That’s great to know. I’ll give them another look then.

Ente doesn’t support subfolders, which is a shame (although it is the highest voted feature request). Zeitkapsl does ❤️

Checked Ente and saw that this app comes with an (local) AI installed. And that’s a no go for me, especially if I don’t know what the AI is used for.

For me Nextcloud doesn’t seem to have the performance needed. Not sure if it’s because I have a large library or something related to the configuration, but for me Immich does a better job. I do have the photos on Nextcloud syncing to another device too just as a failsafe.
