I had a month of medical leave last summer because of a major surgery. I came back to work and my projects hadn’t been touched despite people telling me they’d work on them. I was livid because they were almost done and my notes were detailed enough for folks to pick up where I left off

Before the vacay: extra stress to finish shit in time.

After vacay: extra stress to catch up.

    Net relaxation: none

(Though I personally tried and recommend a “run out of fucks and end slow” / “be stingy with fucks and start slow” model)

Just sort that stack by color and for god’s sake straighten it up. You should be good to go!

And now you know what’s going to happen, even the break isn’t restful!

I used to have to send paperwork to the Department of Commerce for export approvals. One time it seemed to take forever. I managed to get the approval person on the phone and found out they had been out sick for a while. No one touched any of the work while they were out. I could hear the sound of a pile of papers being moved around as they searched for the request I had sent. But they approved it while we were on the phone.
