So there is this guy, best friend of my father since before I was born, I knew him for my entire life. He always worked with food trucks and when I was teenager I worked with him and we would often work until 4am. All kinds of people would show up, early it would be families with kids, later people coming out of clubs and nightlife, then even later it would be cops, drunks, prostitutes, transvestites, crackheads, drug dealers… he always treated everyone equally, he’d give free hotdogs to homeless and beggars, the guy had a huge heart and everyone liked him.
Later I had moved to another city and comes Facebook. I add him, see a lot of right wing bullshit content he liked and shared, even stuff coming from openly homophobic people and it was shocking because he is gay. We have an ugly argument and I didn’t speak to him for about two years, felt like shit the whole time, kept remembering what an amazing and generous person he is, that was always up to help everyone around him. Next time I was back in town I went to his house to apologize, he said he didn’t even remember we had an argument.
People are complex as fuck, and social media got us building walls for believing they are bad for not being perfect.
Moral of the story is people don’t want to spend time thinking about their actions. They just want to do them. So we have to make kindness easy and thoughtless. We have to make cruelty inconvenient and confusing.
This is one of several reasons I don’t have social media anymore. I got tired of discovering that people whom I had previously respected were in fact terrible disgusting human beings 😞
Too bad it has to butcher the growing-up mental-health of millions of children, in order for it to be “profitable”, isn’t it?

WHEN DarkTriad incorporated “persons” enforce a social-process on a population, THEN it isn’t likely to be truly-beneficial to the population it’s preying-on.
( the internet was originally not-for-profit, & that difference is fundamental to what it does now, vs what it did when it was academic )
& the rude fact that social-media PUSHES narcissism, on instagram, & ideology, in filter-bubbled platforms, helps divide-&-vanquish human-viability, on this world, too.
No matter: the next tippingpoint will be when Trump rips the rug out from the pseudo-democracy of the US of A, & then launches his All Americas Wars, for his “Great” empire, & if anybody thinks that the Great Firewall of China is remarkable, then just wait until Trump’s equivalent is in-play…

See past the symptoms: see the undertow that’s about to drown humankind’s life, through social-media’s torque.

Just like it gives an accurate display of the kinds of lives other people are living for you to compare your own to.
Not sure about “bad”. More of a “stupid”.
