      As seen in a bunch of loanwords from Arabic – notably albatross, alcohol, alcove, algebra, alkali, alfalfa, alembic.

    Hah, a variation of this joke is common in German

    Woher kommst du? (Where are you from?)
    Australien (Australia)
    Na? Wo ist Tralien? (Oh? Where is Tralien?)

    The joke being that “aus” means “from” in this context - Australien => Aus Tralien
