my partner does this, it drives me nuts lol. makes me leave the room
I got used to listening to people in 1.5x and 2x as a video editor, and now it frustrates me when I can’t speed people up IRL.
Thus the ruining of life. I’m also crippled by this affliction <3
Interestingly enough, I don’t seem to have that exact problem. The content speeds I’m comfortable with are highly variable, and I think it has something to do with attention bandwidth.
My default speed for videos is 2.5x when I have it on a big screen and I can pump the audio directly into my head via headphones. Without the headphones, anything over 2x usually feels too fast, so I guess filtering ambient noise is using 0.5x worth of brain power. When I lose the visual component (as with audiobooks) to anchor attention onto, I’m most comfortable at 1.5x.
In real life conversations, so much of my attention is on other things (like what my hands and eyeballs should be doing) that 1x is back to feeling normal.
The only thing it maybe hurts is watching videos with other people, but I don’t do that a lot and can usually still get away with 1.25x or 1.5x. Also, I sometimes get the feeling that I’m talking too slowly, but I think I’ve always felt that.
Anything above 2x is me ignoring the audio and just reading the subtitles.
I suppose I’m in the minority here, but I avoid video or audio content entirely in these situations. I don’t want to listen to somebody babble on about something, whether it’s a news story, a documentary, an opinion piece, whatever. Just give me an article or even a blog post that I can read at my own pace, and easily scroll up to refer back to previous parts.
Ctrl+F is my best friend, and you can’t do that in a video or podcast.
You and me both, cousin.
Definitely depends on the goal but I tend to agree. I prefer a written post with screenshots if necessary
I can listen to podcasts at 1.1x speed, and it basically just sounds like they tightened up their delivery a little bit. More than that and it sounds artificial.
I might go as high as 1.25x for some review videos, but I get the distinct impression that those guys are slowing down their delivery so as to pad out the runtime.
I do podcasts at 1.25x. I can’t do videos anything other than 1x because the movements of people become unnatural.
I’ve upgraded this ability to 2.5x-3x speed for some YouTubers and I feel like a god.
I just can’t watch 4 hours of analysis on Tyler Perry at 1x speed.
I suppose that’s just approaching fast reading speed
I’ve been doing this so long that 1x sounds torturously slow. I’ve even gotta bump it up to 2.5x for some videos, 1.5x is the minimum if the speaker already talks quickly or the information is super dense. 1x is strictly for music.
Is that “1x is only used for music” or “all music is 1x?” I’m sure music purists hate the idea, but there’s a lot of music I definitely like more at 1.25x or 1.5x.
Sounds like you’re a Nightcore fan
Not really my thing actually. I usually just want a song to be faster with no pitch change. If that’s your thing though, I’ve not listened to a ton, and I’m open to recommendations to convert me.
Not really my thing either, if anything I’m more partial to slurmcore, but that’s just because I’m a weirdo

You have to listen to this in 2x

Depends on content.
Easy digestable content? 1.75 or 2 Technical? 1 to 1.5 Lifestyle vlog I enjoy watching? 1
depends if its a content im subscribed for, or a slow talking indian dude realising where he is before telling me what to do
Jyst wait till u try automatically gradually slowing them. Waaayyyyy more addictive+relaxing
Its also kinda cool to do the same thing but accelerating gradually but (depending on the timeframe/duration) i can find it somewhat anxiety inducing. It definitely increases heart rate and blood pressure likely.
During the whole DOGE debacle, i kept hearing the Silph Co takeover theme from Pokemon Blue gradually speeding up. Like, i programmed it to do that in my app for that but i cant unhear it
What software do you use for that?
U on iPhone or Android?
Actually, I think its on both.
AnyTune Pro or Pro+
Try the free version but Buy the AnyTune Pro+, its incredible. Theys good people, the app is incredible. Actual sound playground
This is a great idea I can’t believe I’ve never thought of this
Not a fan of doing this, personally
Yeah I often watch videos at 1.2 or 1.3 speed just because it barely changes anything in the end.
I try every now and then but it’s not better if i miss more stuff and need to go back 50 times because i zoned out 1 sec XD
