Lemmy and Kbin is more forum-like or reddit-like in its discussion form while Mastodon is more twitter-like or microblogging
While I know that Lemmy can see Kbin and vice versa, does this also extend to Mastodon and Pixelfed?
Can I see Mastodon and Pixelfed content in Lemmy/Kbin ? and the other way around as well ? (see Lemmy and Kbin content through Mastodon or Pixelfed)
I’m curious on how it works (as a layman), because on Mastodon you follow people/users not communities.
You can follow Lemmy communities in Mastodon by putting the “https://lemmy.world/c/fediverse” in the search box, hitting enter, the community comes up as a group in the search results, then you hit the follow button, and all posts will be sent to your home feed, it’s not the greatest interface between the two, but you can post, and reply, like, follow, all that from and to a Lemmy community/user/post
No idea about Kbin, or Pixelfed as I haven’t checked them out yet
Ooh interesting, I’d probaby make a Mastodon acc just to see and test this myself. Thanks for the insight.
It’d be slicker than greased pigshit if we could use our single ID like a passport across the entire Fediverse to be able to log into Fediverse federated assets seamlessly, but alas, not yet, small steps
I agree, that would be slicker than a minnows dick in a mud puddle.
It’d be slicker than oil-soaped black ice.

In my experience you can follow kbin magazines from mastodon but you won’t be able to see an actual content. not sure if this is being worked on.
I wrote a whole article with screenshots of how Mastodon and Lemmy interop.

I think being able to login with your Mastodon account and/or linking your Mastodon account to a local Lemmy account might be a good feature to write up.
I’m finding all sorts of edge cases. You can’t really edit posts that you make that are posted from Mastodon.
still, I really like it as a feature and am using it myself.

Very informative, thanks for sharing this
I don’t know all the permutations, but Mastodon profiles can indeed be seen on Lemmy. They get parsed as a community where each Mastodon publication (toots?) are a post.
Though comments on said posts will only be seen by people using the same Lemmy instance as you, they do not get interpreted by Mastodon.

Your comment is about following Lemmy communities on Mastodon. Mine is about seeing Mastodon profiles in Lemmy.
ah so it is. reply deleted.
No worries about it - you didn’t even have to delete the reply. Thanks for your explanation too, this way OP gets an answer from both directions Lemmy to Mastodon and Mastodon to Lemmy.
I’m following hariette (developer of the upcoming kbin app Artemis) with my kbin account, so kbin/mastodon interaction works in that direction.
