The demolition of Old Penn Station was an absolute travesty. Probably the most beautiful building to ever be demolished in NYC.

Fortunately the recent redevelopment of New Penn station by relocating the main hall across the street to the James A Farley Building has partially made up for that tremendous blunder. It’s not quite the same, but it’s a hell of a lot better than Madison Square Garden, to say the least. Also echoes the glass-roofed design, as you can see in the Wikipedia article below.

the #1 thing I love about Moynihan Train Hall is that since it’s nicer than MSG’s Penn Station, everyone goes there instead, and I can get on the train faster from MSG hahaha
Yeah I never minded the dingy MSG Penn Station too much personally. I’m usually transferring to or from the subway system anyway, which is obviously even more grimy and cramped.
I really enjoy Moynihan from an architectural and urban design perspective, but on a practical level I barely pay attention to my surroundings anyway when I’m travelling by train. The main thing I’m thinking about is when is the next train and what stop I should get off/transfer.
I’m similar. As a chronically late fuckup, I’m usually too busy sprinting for a gate to appreciate architecture 😂
Though I quite enjoy seeing Moynihan when I exit the return Amtrak. It’s a really nice sight after staring at muddy farms and dead trees out the window in PA and run down buildings in NJ for ~2 hours lol
