The delays are occurring amid a severe global memory chip shortage driven by surging demand from companies building AI servers that require large amounts of RAM. For example, a Mac mini with an M4 Pro chip and 64GB of RAM ordered from Apple's online store in the U.S. today is estimated to ship in 16-18 weeks.

    1. RAM is so expensive now it even eats into Apple’s ridiculous margins
    2. Margins are better on the new laptops and phones and stuff than the Mini and Studio
    3. New Minis and Studios are probably coming later this year

    so,

    1. Let the higher-margin, newer devices take the RAM and artificially extend ship dates for non-base configs of Minis and Studios to discourage people from buying what’s about to be a year or two behind in processor technology

      Not gonna happen with Apple’s SOC. But you can upgrade the SSD. I bumped mine to 2TB relatively painlessly with a aliexpress module.
