Europe/UK Politicians: “We ended a human smuggling operation. This is because we value human rights and civil liberties and rule of law”
Vietnamese trafficking victims: “So now what? Are we refugees?”
Europe/UK Politicians: “No. We hate you. We’re sending you back to your shithole county where we hope you’ll die.”
I thought Vietnam was an alright place.
Really depends on who you are and where you live.
Where the shit are you getting this from? It’s not in the article anywhere. The Europol press release these articles are pulling it from doesn’t mention it either. If it’s just vibes, maybe clarify that when you’re commenting under a specific article.
Edit: In fact, the resolution mentioned by the press release says the opposite:
Preventing and combating trafficking in human beings and supporting the victims of trafficking, regardless of their country of origin, remains a priority for the Union and the Member States.
And says nothing about deportation (what the EU would call “return”). That might be possible under 2008/115/EC. But like, ya didn’t cite that specifically or anything, and that resolution establishes rights to apply for asylum. It seems like this is vibes.
