I tend to agree in general, and it’s fun to catch so many individual words. But ‘faux amis’ can be a real problem, and I prefer to dissect what I’m watching as best as possible.

German movies from the 70s are the best for that kind of thing. Wenders, Herzog, Fassbinder, Schlondorff - these guys wrote poetry instead of dialogue.

Yeah, in most cases I simply wave the white flag and go for subtitles.

But with certain movies I make it all complicated for myself because I already have one foot in the door of both Castellano and French.

i’m still baffled how Italian and Spanish movies manage to sound so beautiful yet the actual dialogue is just bunch perfunctory plot stuff but the actors act the fuck out it. Almodovar is a great example. He’s not a dialogue guy per se but the way he does it is pure music.

Haha, that’s great. I really need to get back on my horse about watching international movies, which I used to before… I dunno, life-shit happened, and all.

oh yeah, life shit throws a wrench. but hey - you don’t have to differentiate the engine buzz of the incoming drone to figure out whether its a dummy or the real one - so things can be worse.
