    A spokesman for Waymo told the Daily Mail the car was being manually driven at the time – and that the driver involved had been suspended.

    This reminds me of the shit Tesla did: operate in autonomous mode until a fraction of a second before a crash and then disengage, placing the blame on the driver once the computer determined a crash was inevitable.

    The question is not will robo-cars have accidents (they will); its will they have them much less than humans. They’re already safer than human drivers and will only get more so.

    People with a science or engineering background can at least understand that artificial intelligence still cannot fully replace human driving, because the stability of electronic devices is affected by environmental and other factors.
