Is that the tail? I did not notice it yesterday, and I think I’ve never paid any attention to how long their tail feathers are.
I’m the title pic it is stretching its wing and that is all you are seeing.
I’m the standing pic everything is tucked up more normally. Red is wing, yellow is tail.

Here’s one coming in for a landing and you can see the whole tail.

Normally it’s just tucked under the wings in a little duck butt shape.


Ah! It’s the wing, but opened downwards. That’s why it seemed huge for a tail. I was really confused there.

Some owls have pretty long tails like the Hawk Owl and Great Grey.
