Check out this master of disguise: We released this Eastern Screech Owl in southern Orange County, and it immediately flew onto a tree trunk, where its mottled brown-gray pattern helped it blend in while it surveyed its new home.

Eastern Screech-Owls nest in tree cavities, and they will position themselves at the opening of the hole to seamlessly blend in with the tree bark.
