The thing about this shot is you have to look at it for like 15min straight. You May take 1 10 second break

The first time I ever saw this was sleep deprived at like 2am and I have to say I think that’s the best way to go for this movie.

I fell asleep around the time Roddy and Keith decide to team up and woke up in the middle of the Predator - literally at the moment when they shoot the jungle after Jesse Ventura is killed.

The sunglasses fight is by far the most often talked about part of the movie. And people douchevote me for saying the overall concept was great but it deserves a remake.

It depends - it can turn out like The Thing or it can turn out like The Thing))) John Carpenter himself said that he likes remakes a lot because it is an easy paycheck. He then proceeds to shit all over them. except for Precinct 13 remake because it is the only one of the bunch that actually did its own thing.

If you make a movie using the same concept, fine.

      A remake? Nope.

The movie is perfect exactly as it is, and can not be improved upon in any way.

        I propose “They died”.

It’s 40 years later. The alien lizard folk have taken completely over and there is no more pretense. The masks are off, you no longer need to read the signs with glasses on - because it’s all out in the open. The last humans alive live in a zoo, where they are prodded to mate, but only to create more humans to be sold as pets to the rich lizard aliens.

It’s just 1½ hour of A-list actors not trying to fuck, leading to an ending where the aliens decide to do artificial insemination again.

Yes, I hate you all, and yes: I want you to suffer.

That fight scene is one of my favorite in all of cinema. It’s so long and so brutal without feeling out of place or over the top.

I just watched this movie for the first time last weekend and that fight scene was definitely the standout! When any other fight scene would’ve ended 12 knockouts prior, they just get back up and keep going. What a ridiculously fun movie.

You know, I almost agree. The movie had flaws. Flaws that hindered it from being a truly brilliant film instead of “just” an entertaining movie.

However, I don’t think that it could be remade any better now. Maybe if it had been done a few years after the original. But now? The cultural consciousness just isn’t going to be conducive to the concept working, partly because of the original, but mostly because anyone doing remakes would be trying to cash in on the same thing, and wouldn’t really make the kind of movie it could have been.

Even if they just did a reshoot of the script, and took it fully serious while casting the best possible actors for every role, it wouldn’t hit right. And if that wasn’t what was going on, then keeping the name is going to make any eventual movie compared to the original, which will limit its viability as a memorable film until years later when people might run across it first. That’s the way the Evil Dead remakes ended up. Great horror movies, but they suffer from the weight of the originals unless someone sees them first without any idea they’re remakes. Mind you, I personally think they’re not top tier horror, just really good, but it’s the best example for this scenario (imo).

It’s not that the concept couldn’t be executed better, because it obviously could. But it would need to be a total separation from the original, not a remake. Take the core concept and completely reimagine it.

Even my hack ass could churn out something different that would be a solid start that avoids clinging to the original, so I know a good writer could.

As a side note, I down voted for the weird “douchevote” whining thing, and I say that so you don’t think it’s because I don’t fully agree.

Anyone else learn about this movie thanks to Zizek?
