      Except the “classic” capitalism rode a wave of favorable demographics and exploited geopolitics. Unfortunately, too many US presidents were born in 1946 and never realized what the lifestyle they got used to necessitates. And the US presidency is just one of the influential posts that played a role in that unsustainable “no brakes” period…

    If all of this feels recent to you and different than before then you are part of the reason we got here.

    We’re all experiencing the results of people en masse being misled or generally unaware of politics, apathetic until it starts to effect them personally in a big way.

    We could have stopped it at any point in the USA or in the UK, and there is still hope for other nations like Australia, France, Germany, etc. to completely avoid the worst it. Just vote for competent and compassionate legislators, and more importantly: do everything in your power to keep the worst kind of people out if office.

      TBF there is a lot more effort being utilized to isolate and separate people, the more isolated the better. A level of selfishness then develops. If we live more communally and socially then it’s easier to have empathy on issues that might not affect us directly.

        I don’t speak enough French to follow the situation more closely, I do know that Macron kind of gambled the country’s future on a surprise election, but I figure if things were as bad as the GOP or the Tories in power that there would have been more signs of the inevitable decline by now.
