It does! With their asymmetrical ears, they are gathering more info about what they are looking at, like when a baby puts something in their mouth.
The asymmetrical hearing lets them get a 3D mental image of anything they can’t see, but they can hear. That’s how owls can hunt things hiding under snow or leaves.
When I try to hide outside the aviaries to observe the owls, there’s no fooling them! They can’t see me so well, but I can see them bobbing and tilting their heads to pinpoint where I am.
The coolest fact to me is they can adjust the shape of their facial feathers to fine tune that parabolic face shape they have to specific frequencies they want to hear better! It is really a remarkable trick!
