this disease has rotted this country since before it’s inception. its one of the most devastating forms of ideologocial pestilence the Europeans brought over, and almost every example we’ve seen of it outside of the US was inspired by the efficiency of American hatred.
Bigotry and exploitation are the foundations of this country, and the US would not be able to exist without it. A utopian future is not one where the US is reformed; it is one where the US no longer exists. In a perfect world it probably would’ve never existed to begin with.
It’s been like this for a very long time. Scale has changed, methods did not.
This began in 2001-2002 when everyone opposing the sudden establishment of outright fascist government institutions (DHS, Patriot Act, the new TSA, expanded NSA surveillance, Gitmo) was labeled an America-hating terrorist sympathizer.
You’ve been on this path for decades. I lived in the US from 1993-2005. When GWB was reeelected it was clear there was no path back and every day since then my decision to leave has been constantly justified.
This is something I’ve been saying like Cassandra since 2014 and the slaying of Michael Brown and the Ferguson Unrest. I was particularly outraged at the 2016 killing of Philando Castile, who had been stopped by traffic patrol forty-nine times in thirteen years. Essentially they kept trying until they got it right.
A friend of mine with family in Puerto Rico notes that this is just the norm in the US for non-whites. Police will look for an excuse to kill you. In white neighborhoods, there is a considerable risk that if they outnumber or outsize you they’ll try to make an example out of you.
Granted, in the 21st century, police brutality (including officer-involved homicide) and hate crime are now being extended to white poors more often than it was. News of law enforcement responding poorly and escalating in response to mental health crises has been on the rise, though maybe it’s because we’re recognizing MHCs for what they are rather than excited delirium which is an offense worthy of summary execution.
But ICE has always been like the brown shirts or the SS, a paramilitary force that is loyal not to the nation or its laws, but to the current administration, and intended to target its political enemies. The story goes like this:
In the 1990s FBI wanted to transition away from being the secret police that went after the political enemies of the administration (as per during the J. Edgar Hoover years). The Sicilian Mafia had been cleared out, and organized crime was changing. Street gangs were an alleged problem but that was a matter for local departments and the DEA. (FBI fiction was getting its material from the Behavioral Analysis Unit and its hunt for serial killers.)
Then the 9/11 attacks happened. Terrorism by Islamist extremists suddenly had to be taken seriously. The PATRIOT Act was passed. DHS was formed and was meant to facilitate different intelligence departments sharing their data to create comprehensive picture. Everything was a matter of national security.
Within all that, Immigration and Customs Enforcement was formed.
We already had a service to deal with immigrants. Customs and Border Patrol was intended to actually patrol the border (and regularly provided water and supplies to migrants in transit because dead bodies were messy and embarrassing). So on paper, ICE was meant to hunt down undocumented immigrants inside the borders who were causing problems. These were the rare violent felon, the murderers and rapists and the worst of the worst. Except that that they’re rarer than violent criminals are in the general population. Undocumented Immigrants are statistically well behaved and keep a low profile.
ICE also investigates trademark counterfeiting and, strangely, violations of repair licenses. In the early 2010s, ICE raided several Florida repair shops whose crime was repairing iPhones without a license from Apple to do so. This was before the right-to-repair movement got speed. And then there was that time that ICE raided the estate of Kim Dotcom in New Zealand. Representatives from record labels like Columbia and Sony were present. That was weird, and it seems that ICE sometimes serves as a paramilitary contractor for corporate interests to solve their problems.
But even before Trump, ICE was a federal paramilitary force with an obtuse mission that also served as muscle for the current administration. Obama used them quietly, but Trump was way into the notion. Trump also has had a conspicuous hard-on for police brutality in general, even before his political career. Especially when that violence is directed at non-whites. But during the first Trump term, ICE was most conspicuous with its family separation policy, with children locked in cages and denied regular accommodations (food, hygiene, healthcare, etc.), and then during the George Floyd protests of 2020, where they were quick to deploy tear gas and rubber bullets in Portland, Oregon.
So ICE serving as an unregulated federal paramilitary service that targets anyone, especially perceived enemies of the Trump regime is a natural progression from what they were when the department was founded. Even when we were seeing signs of a movement towards a police state in the George W. Bush administration, ICE was there to get its hands dirty.
When you watch sites like iceout.org often like I do. You notice that there has been a sharp uptick in the number abductions. Recently, these abductions are quick and they normally only target small groups as opposed to the larger scale raids at places of employment, or the invasion of cities that happened earlier.
It shows a national trend in which tactics have changed. They are trying to reduce optics and media attention/intrest by keeping actions small and distributed.
And the media is happy to ignore this if it can.
I read the news every day. ICE is definitely in the media every day.
To an extent. But part of it is just psychology. If it’s on camera it’s a lot more emotionally salient. If they can avoid cameras it makes it harder. The resistance will also have to change tactics but I’m not sure how…
It’s already happened. Nothing can stop it because those with any power to do so, won’t.
And no one is taking action. We should be burning this country to the ground everyday until these fascists are gone and our political system is razed and rebuilt. Holding a sign at a convenience protest or boycotting Paramount for a couple of weeks just doesn’t seem to be cutting it.
Yeah, it’s curious how the public cannot get organized. History has shown that labor is almost always fighting a losing battle.
Germany had the same problem last century, though the process of Nacht und Nebel took years in the Reich, and the Trump administration is trying to fast-track it into months.
I’m disabled, and there’s been news that institutionalizing the disabled is an early next step on the White House agenda. So I hope we can nip this in the bud in time.
Doesn’t help that platforms like this regularly silence people trying to encourage such things. Users help, too- with accusations of “fedposting” flung at anyone suggesting that you might need a little more than waving signs and voting to stop Nazis.

Victim blaming would apply to the people abducted or killed by ICE. Last time I checked the US was still a democracy, with a very low level of participation.
So yeah. There might not be a single cause to the rise of fascism in the US, but apathy and ignorance of the general population definitely has something to do with it.
Well, the governments of the EU still cling to neoliberal policies while the far right movements gain traction, and the states are buying in more and more into surveillance technology, often imported from China.
The white Christian nationalists of the US are importing their religious vision abroad, and is gaining converts even on your shores.
So once the billionaire oligarchs are done here in the states financing our downfall, you can expect them to head over there and buy up your government officials as well. Because no matter where in the world you are, politicians come cheap, and they have more money than anyone ever has before, by orders of magnitude.
As I point out (though the thresholds don’t figure perfectly) a multi-billionaire can easily buy an election and control a government. A trillionaire can buy all the elections and control all the governments.
When the US falls, I hope the rest of the world learns from it. But we’ve seen this before not just in Germany and Italy. Our lessons from the twentieth century are not helping us that much in the twenty-first.
We live in very dire and interesting times.

There’s “The Game” and the players of the game play out on a global gameboard. The nations are like different editions of mini games. And the citizens inside those nations from the street life to the regular citizens up to the politicians and presidents and prime ministers are the game pieces being played. Our civilian lives are like game pieces with a lifespan and what we are taught are the moves the game players decided. Sometimes the moves may lag, like the game player makes move and it doesn’t finish for years or decades. We are taught that we are doing is what’s right, and taught what success is, all while helping and funding something cancerous to humanity. It’s not simple though… You can seriously think your doing something good, but in the grand scheme it’s just a blip that helps lead to the end goal of people (the game players) that don’t have the human species overall progression and wellbeing in mind. Essentially it’s the conquest mindset. “We” conquested the land, the animals, nations, and we ARE conquesting the human species. The spirit and ideology of the “game players” doesn’t stop with animals and land. It’s the conquest of existence and we are their game pieces being played out to fund it and built it.
We are nothing but chess pieces being molested physically and mentally by psychopaths. Even the protests and civil unrest are game moves or eventually manipulated by game moves. We gave up our power for false security and false freedom and shitty entertainment. You don’t fix this by utilizing the rules that they built to own the game pieces. You fix it by detoxing and understanding yourself and your existential experience separate from what was taught to you as guidelines. Once you detox you basically come back to the authentic message and guidelines that religions used to be built on before they were manipulated as a method of control. Those teachings are the closest to timeless indestructible knowledge from wisdom. And those teachings can be known and understood absent of organized religions… Absent of anything but honest reality. It’s like distilling existence down to only truth, where as in “modern societies” honest authentic soul is actively distilled from genuine human existence… It’s like the fuel system that keeps this cancer growing.
It’s a hard pill to swallow. And most people won’t because it’s difficult and uncomfortable to know creating order in this chaos is up to you and not something you can leave your house one day every 4 years to vote on. …and to add to that it’s also not something you can pray away once a week at church. …an authentic person needs to detox and return to that balance that is truth, reality, and the ability and faith to ride the wave of constant chaos which will never leave and can never be escaped from no matter how much bullshit is sold to you as security, safety, and freedom. If one isn’t in this balance than everything born from that person, everything created from them will help to build a faulty foundation. …Like a child being born with drugs, cancer, or aids in its system. And we are watching a world built on that foundation giveaway and rot.
Also… This ice stuff is probably a beta test for policing after modern Ai surveillance and profiling comes into play. Data centers are being built for this not just Gemini and chatgpt. And the funds to ice are for the future. The events and murders are possibly actions to stoke fear early so we fear them later. Immigrants are targets now for the beta test because they are the easiest minority target, they know they couldn’t have gotten traction and growth of the new army with any other group of people and it also normalized “regular” people being abused so that later on when it’s anybody, you or me, people won’t flinch at the abuse.
