Finished Star Fox! Completed all the planets, including all the alternate routes (except one in Sector X, where you have to kill the boss in certain time). Didn’t get any medals though, came very close to getting them couple of times, so will try for them a few times more, but don’t care about them too much.

I like how there are dialogue changes (even if minor) depending on if all characters are with you or if any character is missing due to damaged Arwing. Also, didn’t realise how much game you are missing out on if you just play one route.

Loved the game, finally understanding why people care so much about the series. Hoping for a new entry in the series now!

As I mentioned last week, Earth Defense Force 5 was nearing the end, so spent most of the weekend to finish the game, but turned out there was more left than I expected, so spent half the week playing it too. It had total of 110 levels, and couple of them were very long. Also had to switch to those annoying hold-to-charge, release-to-shoot weapons to beat last 2 levels, so ended up getting used to them, it turns out they aren’t all that bad.

Finished the game now!

Started Star Ocean: First Departure R. After finishing Voice of Cards last week, wasn’t playing anything on Switch, so started Star Ocean.

This is my first Star Ocean game and I am surprised to see how good it is. The combat system felt a bit weird in the start (it’s real time but there is no dodge or block) and took getting used to, but I think I have gotten the hang of it. The world building is also interesting, gives some of that Star Trek feel. After the initial exposition doesn’t look like there would be any major twist in the story, seems to be pretty straight forward, but will have to just wait and see.

No Red Dead Redemption 2 this week. I am not going to start another PS game now and focus on this from here on.

Same with Monster Hunter Stories, it was on back burner due to Star Fox, but even though I have finished that now, Splatoon Raiders is releasing soon so I probably won’t be getting back to this any time soon.

What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

I finished the main story in Denshattack! and replayed a few more tracks to get better achievements. It’s a really fun original game!

During the week I played Mario Kart online with two different friends. One of them also has a Switch 2, so we played Mario Kart World and we tried out Game Chat for the first time. It’s kind of convenient, you can talk through bluetooth headphones with your Switch 2 and don’t need to have your phone around. I guess other consoles and PC have had this forever, but still convenient. Will be fun in different games if we use a camera (definitely for Star Fox with the AR features!). I also played Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I really like that game, been playing it since the Wii U and I still think I prefer it over World… No idea what I’ll be playing during the weekend!

      Hehe, thanks!

I skimmed through your review but don’t think I saw how long the game is?

Game Chat might be okay, but I was so annoyed thay there is no way to have a text chat. Who makes a chat system and doesn’t add text chat! Nintendo can be so weird.

Made some more progress in Is Yoshi Even Able To Read Books, Mysterious Or Otherwise?. I wonder if the post game is as big as it is because they just had so many ideas left. Even classic enemies like the Piranha Plant offer brand new experiences.

I was going to wait until after Yoshi, but since there’s still so much to do, I finally played Star Fox. It’s hard to say how different it is from the original, some bosses feel like they die faster, then Solar’s boss was the first one to beat me and I don’t remember him being an issue!

But for what it’s worth, my muscle memory is still largely intact. There’s only six or seven medals I didn’t get on my first try. I also completed all 12 challenges for Corneria, the latter six being rougher than I expected. I’m glad you still get credit when you die though, as I crashed and burned after finally getting two of them done in the same run.

I’m not sure how hard I’ll try to complete the game though, since you can’t get true 100% without Amiibo anyway…

I finally beat Visions of Mana today! There’s still some post game, no idea how much though, and afterwards I’ll check the achievements list to see if there’s anything dumb to stop me from truly completing it. I’m surprised the final boss ate into my resources as much as he did though (the first boss to do so at all!), considering I was level 82 thanks to the double experience from the Lil Cactus rewards. I still can’t believe they just give that to you…

Something awful happened to Jimothy in Fallout 3, so he took a lot of drugs and now we’re playing Katamari Damacy Reroll for a while.

I like your names for Yoshi. How are you finding the difficulty level of post-game? I got stuck on the first one when I tried it, which caused me to take a break from post-game and just do the remaining stuff in earlier levels.

What’s that about not able to do 100% without Amiibo? Also, there are new Star Fox Amiibos?

Congratulations on finishing Visions of Mana! And good luck with the post game!

I find difficulty in Yoshi very hard to judge. I’d say there are difficult research tasks appear more often for sure, but they aren’t necessarily new. The main game makes you juggle three boomerangs at some point and to me, that was the most difficult thing to do in all my play time.

As for Star Fox, it’s not much, just some emblems at the bottom of the list, but it’ll leave most players at 99% completion at best.

I didn’t do the difficult researches in the main game, that could be the reason that I felt the difficulty spike.

Sometimes I do feel like I’m playing the game wrong, as I tend to forget levels have a ‘goal’ you have to achieve to move on. Usually, the goal is just something I stumble upon during all my other research, but it wasn’t until post-game that I tried to leave a level to reset it only to realize I haven’t even beaten it yet.

I second the names for Yoshi, always fun to read!

No new Star Fox amiibo yet, but you can unlock customizations for your online badge with the Smash Bros Fox, Falco and Wolf amiibo.

Congrats on finishing Star Fox! I’ve decided to finally get a Switch 2 (probably this month or the next one) and it’ll be one of the first games I’ll purchase.

This was another busy week with limited time for gaming, so I’ve been focusing on action games I can play in short sessions.

Finished Ariana and the Elder Codex!

This game joins the small list of “Compile Hearts/Idea Factory games that are actually good”. It’s not perfect, movement is bit stiff and some bosses have so much stuff going on in the screen that you can even lose track of your character (!), but overall this was a solid Action RPG.

Positives include gorgeous art, many options for attacks/spells and generally fun gameplay. Negatives include really basic story and lack of enemy diversity.

    Playing Majogami!

When I saw the videos of this new Inti Creates creates game I thought “this reminds me of Muramasa: The Demon Blade”, a game I absolutely love (and it’s getting is getting a Swich port, buy it when it’s out), so there was no way I was going to pass this.

So far it’s quite good. I was a bit afraid from the videos it would be a visual “overload” with too many flashy animations, but nothing about that has bothered me so far. Comboing is fun, new abilities are getting unlocked all the time, bosses are challenging without being oppressive.

One thing worth mentioning is that the game is way more “wordy” than I expected, lots of cutscenes and dialogue. Not a problem for me, but might bother people who prefer less taking in action games.

Welcome to the dark side! You were one of the people who were going to get one eventually, but what made you finally take the plunge?

Which other Compile Heart / Idea Factory games do you think are worth playing? I have a few of them on my wishlist, but haven’t looked them up in detail recently so not sure if they are worth the time. Namely, Death end Re;quest, Fairy Fencer F and Mary Skelktor. There might be more but these are the “oldest” ones in my list.

I loved Muramasa: The Demon Blade! I thought the same thing when I saw Majogami! Glad you are liking the game. I also have multiple Inti Creates games in my wishlist. I guess that’s what happens when you have a wishlist spanning more than a decade. 😆

StarFox, Fire Emblem and Xenoblade basically. Getting it before the price increase in September also matters.

Which other Compile Heart / Idea Factory games do you think are worth playing?

So far only this and Mary Skelter (in particular the second game).

Nice. I still haven’t played Engage, so won’t be getting Fortune’s Weave on launch, but its nice to see so many exclusives for Switch 2.

I’m most of the way through Cat Mail Co, it’s a nice time waster. I’m also trying to get into Medieval Dynasty. We’ve got a tiny group of 4 people so far, there’s a lumberjack who collects like 1 log a day, a dude who allegedly gets buckets of water from the well, and a hunter I’ve literally never seen do anything. It’s uh… fun.

I might start another run of Elden Ring. It’s been about a year and a half since I last played, so a nice slow-paced game with a new weapon type might be a bit of fun. I didn’t like the expansion at all, but for the most part the main game is pretty chill.

I tried Medieval Dynasty with a friend, our first survival game and it was such a chore with just two people. It could’ve been fun 3 or 4, some more people helping with stuff.

Elden Ring … is pretty chill.

Uhh… I think we have different meaning of chill.
