I love how it’s possible to create posts on Lemmy directly from Mastodon. I’ve been doing this a lot over on [email protected] following guidance published here.

It works nicely when an image is attached to a Mastodon post but not so much when you’re posting a link. Does anyone know if there’s a way to format the Mastodon post so that the link is picked up by Lemmy to be used as the URL field? It would make sense if it simply used the first link found. That’s what it does for images: it uses the first image and ignores the rest.

But maybe this isn’t possible with links just yet?

As it stands, posting a link creates a discussion post type rather than link post type.

I don’t think Mastodon supports that.

I think it’s more about how Lemmy parses and interprets the message coming from Mastodon, no? Mastodon doesn’t (as far as I know) have a dedicated field for URLs. Clients do, however, use the first link to create a social media summary box. I’m assuming Lemmy could do something similar, but it just doesn’t (yet)?

E.g. there is no concept of a Title field in Mastodon, so Lemmy just uses the first line of the Mastodon post as the title.
