pcs exist, you know. you could even build one equivalent in performance to a ps5 with old used parts at this point.

Best protest would be to cancel the online subscription and quit buying new games.

Current one already sold huge amount and console entered into its end of lifecycle anyway. Most who purchased it did already. So all is left is the next one. I mean lot of people won’t buy it for high price anyway, so there is more or less only the hardcore fans adopting the console early. But if they don’t buy it either, then the console will fail. But… this only works if other consoles have a disk drive (or cartridges).

You know, at this point, I wouldn’t even be surprised if they colluded to make it happen… It’s shameful how all these companies are acting.

The current one however, is about to launch one of the most anticipated games of all time in a digital only format. GTA 6 should also be boycotted by anyone who wants to fight this. It is quite literally their measuring stick to see if they can get away with it.

As someone who basically put all my eggs into the PS5 as my console to do a physical collection for I am incredibly disappointed with this.

I wouldn’t have cared whatsoever if they said PS6 is digital only. Wouldn’t have bought a digital only console regardless.

But the idea that a game from a series I have collected for that comes out after 2028 won’t have a disc is such a bummer.

I’m still coping they reverse the decision but I don’t think thats likely. That or just let the random limited print companies continue to do their thing for the few people left who care?

Since I doubt Sony will ever push the blu-ray spec beyond 100GB. It would have been nice to at least have a cart style option since storage on flash/nand storage isn’t the issue it was back in the N64 days when CDs and DVDs stored more for less cost. AI stuff fucking prices and supply aside, it seems like prices for them would have made enough sense. Also seems like it would be less complicated than still having optical drives.

Ranting mostly about media beyond physical game releases below.

Also kind of seems that physical releases of TV and movies could have adapted carts for uncompressed 1080p/2160p. Don’t get me wrong, I love the vibe of optical discs (even with their faults). Just hate that everything is almost completely download (for games) and streaming (for video) only. Non-game media is more frustrating since most set-top players don’t have the DRM-ed periodic phone-home download options that phones and tablets have.

Might as well just make sure it is fully powered off and unplugged so it can’t update in low power mode. If it hasn’t been updated, it might be useful later on if an exploit is found allowing CFW. I haven’t paid attention to the scene much, but old OFW tend to give the best options if found. Only “downside” is online stuff unless options have been found for per-game private servers.
