Possibly a hot take, but I don’t think that everything should be covered by retro-styled bands with horn sections.
It’s jarring, the style change.
This seems to get popular again every five years or so. Scott Bradley Postmodern Jukebox that was popular like (fuck me) 10 or 12 years ago still tours occasionally. Then there was the sad clown dude who went viral on one of the talent shows maybe 5 or 6 years ago. Seems about right for another revival.
The track is just not very fit for the jazz genre, since it’s mostly rather monotone both in the instrumental and vocal parts. I guess one could make it explicitly chill protracted minimal jazz, but that’s not what’s done here.
Player’s (Amon Tobin’s) ‘Angel of Theft’ is better just because it adds stuff so it certainly doesn’t need more.
