If you’re the kind of person who doesn’t read the linked article and just comes to the comments: stop. no. go back. click through. It’s really important you read what she wrote because it is beautiful.

When I was little, I had an aready beaten (not completed) copy of MM. Amoung the other games I played, I would start it up and just sorta explore the world and get to know the characters. And even fight the bosses when I eventually figured out how to open the temples. I even discovered a few unfound masks and got the gilded sword. And some times I would just roleplay that I lived in this little world.

Many years later, with the help of a couple of let’s players, I finally beat the game myself from start to finish.

It it one of the few games I’ll go back and replay every decade or so, and it has always held a special place in my heart.

I have had hope for another game like, but I have yet to find anything that cpmes close.

Some rougelike games are a bit similar mechanically; but it’s ultimately a unique game and experience with no peers.

That was a really good read. I agree with the author, that the people around us all leave their masks with us. We also try to give people our masks.

    We all wear masks.
