SOLVED:
So the mini HDMI cable was very loose. I used some jewelry pliers to crimp the male connector and made a tighter connection, now It works!
Pre-solve Update:
So it seems that the problem is jnfact the mini HDMI port on the camera itsself. If I hold it in VERY firm ajd at a specific angle, I can get it to send signal for 2 seconds before it disconnects again.
This is very sad, as a fix doesn’t seem to exist, and I can’t afford to send it out for repairs. Belgium bummer.
A friend gave me a Panasonic LUMIX GH4 a while ago. I got it working using the mini HDMI out on the camera and this capture card and through a powered USB hub (also tested through direct to PC). Now after refiguring my setup, I had to disconnect my camera from my setup for a few minutes to move things around. However everything was turned off before disconnecting. I plugged everything back in, and now my source on streamlabs displays my capture card as just a black screen. It registers that it is connected, but there is nothing going through. could it be a setting in the GH4 that got reset, the HDMI port on my GH4 is faulty, could it be the capture card? I’m at a loss and I am very distressed over this. Is there anyone out there, or a community who can help me?
mini HDMI
The worst connector ever made. Possibly just broke.
Get a mini to normal hdmi cord if you’re not already using one and test the camera output on a TV or monitor
I’ll give the tv connection a try. And that’s what I have. Mini HDMI-HDMI - capture card - Usb 3.0 - powered USB hub - PC it worked great for a while, and now it’s giving me the business.
Solved!

Glad you got it figured out!
And now you know why MiniHDMI is the worst connector ever built and needs to die a firey, painful death. The slightest bump ruins the socket.
Yup! If I had any other choice or could afford a newer camera I would do so! But considering my friend just gave me this incredibly nice DSLR because he got a better one, I will do everything in my power to use it. Even if I have to mangle the little mini hdmi cable lmao
Well, can’t argue with the price lol.
At least when the port finishes failing they can be replaced by most electronics repair shops for not too expensive. So you won’t be out a camera.
Ok coolio. What kind of repair shops so I know to keep an eye out.
Try removing the device entirely from your computer including the drivers, cycle the power on the camera, check the ports for damage or debris, then reconnect. Hopefully it was just a driver issue that removing and re-adding will resolve.
Could be a bad port or something else, you’ll have to troubleshoot until you eliminate what it isn’t until you figure out what it is.

Glad you got it resolved, thanks for updating your post!
Thanks! I’ll try yeeting the drivers I reset the pc power cycled everything unplugged, replugged sideplugged overplugged, reversed the power on/off sequence of devices several times. Removed from powered usb hub to PC, then back again to see if that helped. It’s all a kerfuckle lol so stressed about it!
I’d love to have one of the nicer capture cards, but they are a little pricey for me. But I’ll try tv connecting, and yeeting the drivers
My next step (before driver stuff) would be to figure out where in the chain you are having issues.
(1) check if the camera is working on its own (assuming it can record to internal memory or something). No? Time to troubleshoot the camera.
(2) connect from the camera’s mini hdmi to a tv/monitor and see if you’re getting a picture. No? Time to troubleshoot the hdmi out or hdmi cable.
- plug some other hdmi source into the capture card. Does it work? No? Problem is probably with the capture card/computer.
The camera itsself works fine. No issues with the camera proper that I know of, unless it is the mini hdmi port on the camera. I’ll definitely be taking it to my TV and plugging it up to see if it works when I get home from work.

Congrats!
I plugged it up to my smart TV. Is it supposed to just automatically display to the TV? Or is there a setting I am supposed to se to make it display through the HDMI?
There should be a community at lemmy.film that could help.
I’m not a member of that instance. Can’t post.
you need to visit that community from within lemmy.world, like this:
Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn’t work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: [email protected]
You should be able to post from here since they’re federated. It looks like it’ll let me post and we’re on the same instance.
Simply says “I’m not logged in there” when I try to post. Oh well.
Weird, are you in a mobile client?
Yes, liftoff for Lemmy.
That’s probably why then, shows up in the web interface.
