Things are still pretty rough and busy on my side so I don’t have much to write about, especially in terms of new VN playthroughs. This probably won’t change until the end of the year but we’ll see how it goes.
The only update I have for this month is the addition of the recently released unofficial translation for Folie Fatale to our VN Patch List. Once again, thanks to @[email protected] for posting about it.
If anyone else knows about any unofficial translations or patches worth adding to the list, please let me know. We can always use more of them!That’s all for today. I can’t way until I’m in shape to read… anything really.
I just found this community after looking for a reddit alternative.

Currently working on a translation patch for Minagoroshi no Otome (about 70% done with editing)
Jast is supposed to release an official translation at some point though, so I won’t be putting that one on vndb
Welcome! Things are much quieter here than on reddit but I hope we can work towards being a proper alternative eventually.
These look like really cool projects, I’ll make sure to add them to our patch list. I didn’t expect anyone active on the scene to join us so that’s a nice surprise.
I’m just fed up with having my accounts crushed by automated systems. After having my Steam account, X account and Reddit account all suspended/banned in the span of 3 weeks, I’m just so sick of it. After all I just want a place for some of my thoughts to live. I also feel like even though Reddit has way more people, it doesn’t really do a good job at aggregating that presence into something valuable, and that has gotten even worse over time. Same as with youtube, subscriptions don’t mean anything anymore because your feed just ignores them. Anyway, off topic, but I was so depressed about it I had to take some kind of action which is how I ended up here
Recently started streaming myself translating Hatoful Boyfriend (JP -> EN). I don’t play tons of visual novels, but I really love Hatoful Boyfriend in particular so this has been a dream for me for a while. For those not familiar, it follows the story of the lone human girl at Saint PidgeoNation’s Institute. You attend classes, meet wonderful and interesting birds, and eventually decide on a special someone. It kinda feels like it was made with a budget of literally $0 + a whole bunch of one person’s time, but that doesn’t stop it from being a fun time.
edit: I got the end credits. I looks like a shocking number of people worked on this.
I’m pretty sure the original version was made by a single person with no budget so you’re not entirely wrong. It was later remade by a proper studio and published by Devolver Digital, hence the long credits.
Was this a language practice? Like, you translate the game to JP and compare with the original release or did you have a different idea in mind with this?
Language practice and fun. I read the JP lines out loud, looking up any words I’m unfamiliar with. I then give an English translation as best I can, and I move on. The goal isn’t to create some super-cool better-than-official translation, or to put down the original translation in anyway. Just language practice and fun.
It certainly sounds like a fun exercise. Can’t say I ever got that far with my JP practice but it’s definitely something I’d like to get to some day as well (minus streaming, I’m done with that at this point).
How did it go? If you don’t mind me asking.
It went well enough; a few people showed up. All of them were Japanese learners or native Japanese speakers; some of them more proficient than me, some less. It’s honestly really helpful when people who are more proficient than me show up because if I’m having trouble with a difficult sentence they’ll help me out; that’s half the reason I stream it! Of course, if you were in a discord community or something with other Japanese learners you could get the same effect but maybe even better by doing it in voice chat; I’m actually nearly done playing through Persona 5 Royal that way.
I’ve been reading Carrot’s Our Wonderland and am currently in Act 3.
The summary: As the title suggests, it’s a story inspired by Alice in Wonderland except the group of kids who visited said wonderland are now grown adults in their 30s with typical adult problems. A certain incident leads them to return to the wonderland of their childhood once again and things go wrong. so wrong. There are also timeloop shenanigans.
The story is especially interesting to me since it features a male asexual protagonist and that fact is discussed in a lot of detail in the text.
So far it’s a lot more brutal than I expected lmao The first arc is very generous with the violence and torture, and paired with the protag being a damsel in distress, it has a slight sadistic feel to it imo. That changes a lot later on it seems, as the protag claims more agency over the narrative.
I’m really curious how this is going to end. I’m playing about half an arc at a time.
