In https://lemmy.world/post/50116148 , I asked for ideas on how to improve the rules.

The 3 pieces of feedback I received:

  1. should we have a “no mass downvoting” rule? too often I see an unpopular opinion post where every OP comment just gets blanket downvoted despite very much engaging in good faith - 2 upvotes, 0 downvotes
  2. I just wish people upvoted unpopular opinions, instead of the opinions they agree wirh. Anything people don’t agree with, they downvote. :( - 18 upvotes, 0 downvotes (not sure if this is something we can easily turn into a rule)
  3. Remove no politics rule. Let’s get some political unpopular opinions - 4 upvotes, 3 downvotes

Let me know what we should change from the list above - if anything.

I think allowing politics would be a shit show. If it’s something a majority of folks really want I’d suggest starting with a dedicated day of the week.

Not a bad idea. I HATE politics (ignore the fact that I moderate politicalmemes), because it’s always a fight.

The hypothetical “Kamala would have been worse then Trump for the country” thread is already giving me pre-ptsd.

I specifically do not include politics in my Lemmy experience. I get enough of it everywhere else, and there are plenty of places to hear unpopular opinions about politics. Honestly, I would unsubscribe if that went away.

As for mass downviting, I see the appeal of a rule. There are some new voting options coming in 1.0 though, I’d hold off until those come and then revisit it.
