The Center for Wildlife

Cape Neddick, ME

I saw a good number of animal rehabs along the Southcoast and Downeast, but it was tough to find any visiting info or specifics on their animals.

There was a cool looking adult animal camp on Hog Island, but that was $1k+, so I didn’t feel that was appropriate to feature.

We just missed the Beaks and Brews event at Center for Wildlife, but they do have an open house event this Sunday, Sep 17, and they do other various events throughout the year. You can also visit them at the center, but I can’t guarantee you owls specifically at any of these things. Some events feature owls in there advertising, and there are a few pics of owls at the center, but they also have lots of mammals and turtles featured as well, so this isn’t just a raptor center.

About Gaia, from their Facebook page:

Meet Gaia, our female Great Horned Owl ambassador here at Center for Wildlife. Gaia came to us in 2011 after sustaining a serious wing fracture due to a fall from her nest. Gaia’s wing healed in a position that left her unable to fly and she was then transported to us forcare. Gaia is one of our most iconic educational ambassadors and always impresses with both her size and incredible beauty! Gaia has a strong bond with many CFW staff members including our Executive Director who was working in our clinic at the time of Gaia’s arrival. Gia not only has educated thousands of communitymembers about her species and ways to protect wildlife, but she also acts as a foster mom fororphaned great horned owls that come through our Medical Clinic. In her time with us, Gaia has fostered over 40 baby owls that have been released back to thewild. During visits to CFW, you may see Gaia basking in the sunlit corner of her enclosure or perched right up front at her window. She always mesmerizes with her large, vibrant eyes! Come by to visit Gaia and our other ambassadors or animals during a self-guided tour, privateexperience or public event. For more information on ways to visit, head to our website.
