Block-Swiping.

Block Swiping is when someone knowingly antagonizes you or wants their ‘final word’ in before blocking you. This is just an elevated flame bait tactic to instigate someone into chasing that user up until they get banned. I find that this kind of behavior is counter-productive to having decent engagements online in general. You should be banned for this because all that this does is just fuel more drama.

Edit: To the few of you who’re taking pot shots at me like the immature cunts you are - go back to Reddit for that.

So someone said something you didn’t like and then blocked you after? And you weren’t happy with not having to ever see that person again as a solution? There’s no pleasing some people…

“You come back here this instant and listen to my retort or you should be banned”

Bannable is pretty extreme. The post should be removed though. If they continually bait the listed reason on the ban will not be, “block swiping” it will be trolling.

No because it’s like doxxing. Nobody is doxxing another always with the best intentions in mind, there are exceptions. But a lot of the time, it is to stir up shit when nobody has asked for it. You’re not block-swiping to always avoid someone, you’re block-swiping just to be an asshole about it.

Absolutely unhinged take. Block swiping is merely rude. So what? Meanwhile doxxing can potentially expose someone to physical danger

Tbh, you just seem like an emotionally immature asshole that’s miserable to be around, and that’s the most likely factor playing into you getting block-swiped.

Posting anything generated by an “AI”. It’s such a waste of bits and there’s absolutely no need for it.

Also botting. You’re drowning out the opinions is real people and just trying to scream louder by running a swarm of bots.

The Internet should be by people and for people

I just think it’s crazy that there are people who need to be told, “No, AI information is not helpful. No, I did not want to read that. I asked this question to receive responses from real people. No, that did not answer my question.”

Using a chatbot isn’t the same as talking to real people, even people who won’t admit that, understand it.

That’s what’s happening when you see people keep posting AI slop for other humans to see it.

The person who posts it thinks it’s great, but even if they say they enjoy using a chatbot as much as talking to humans, they don’t just keep talking to their chatbot about it, they show it to people and want the people to be as supportive as the AI and no longer know how to respond to negative feedback.

The obvious solution would be they just keep talking to their chat bots about it, but the chatbots suck and can’t hold a conversation so the users keep circling back to real humans.

They need to just skip the chatbots all together, and admit that it’s not a replacement for actual social interaction

Similar for people that get annoyed when you ask them about something you know they know. “Why not just google it?” Maybe I’d rather hear it from a person?? Maybe I want a conversation more than an answer?

I find it heavily correlated with your knowledge of the topic. Like, assuming you are not a quantum physicist, if you ask a question about quantum physics it looks to do a good job. If you are a electrical engineer and ask a question about electrical engineering, it looks horrible.

For me, it’s literally a coin flip whether it’s accurate or not, so there’s no point in reading it at all. If you have to verify everything it says, it’s a waste of time to even read it.

    Block Swiping

Lots of people seem to feel the need to announce their blocks. You don’t have to make a scene. You can just walk away from the fight. Closing it with that one final embarrassment will just make you even more of a clown.

Then what’s the alternative? I’d like to hear this one.

Because incase you haven’t noticed, ICE and the rich proudly sugarcoat their efforts in exterminating those they don’t like. On a regular basis.

So, tell me and the rest of the audience here, as to why simply expressing how good it’d be to see those whose actions affect the lives of literal millions and billions for generations to be exposed to some violence, is wrong.

And I will not accept “because it just isn’t” as an answer.

What better solution is there? Why should the daily violence of capitalist exploitation and imperialism, and the fascist paramilitary body ICE, be thought of as a problem to be solved through the systems that prop up and enable them in the first place?

    What?

So you think if someone replies, but gives a heads up they won’t see any other replies…

    They should be banned?

That doesn’t “fuel drama” it literally can’t because once one account blocks another, they don’t interact anymore.

Although, in my experience a lot of people do take that as some huge insult and then run around trying to stir drama in unrelated threads and just making shit messy.

But 99.999% of the time that’s why they were blocked.

If someone is obsessive about social media and clearly won’t let things go, a lot of people will just block them.

And when they crash out and spread that drama everywhere…

They’re going to get banned for being messy.

    Edit:

And to be clear, just blocking someone like that without saying anything, won’t change the result.

Plenty of accounts will get impatient and start double replying, then start replying to other comments brining up how they’re being “avoided” and insulting the account that stopped replying.

When dealing with people like that, there’s nothing you can do except block them and eventually they’ll latch on to a new target.

Like, there’s a lot of people who feel ignored in real life, so when someone doesn’t give them attention on line, they crash out over and over again. No one is obligated to keep interacting with anyone else on social media.

The issue is OP thinks engagement online is a thing that should be ‘decent’ as in, happen entirely according to their own wishes and rules.

So yeah, anyone who doesn’t behave the way they think they should, should be banned. because me me me me i know what is best for everyone!

Well, if you don’t ban or otherwise moderate unpleasant people, your community will rot until it’s nothing but unpleasant people and those who can tolerate them. So that’s not a desirable outcome.

Communities should have rules. People who repeatedly break those rules should be banned. This is true online and offline.

The more challenging question is “what are the best rules to make?”

Most places will disallow porn and gore, or require them to be appropriately labeled or quarantined. That makes sense to me.

Many places will ban anything too violent. Threats against individuals I understand. Saying you can’t even imagine violence against organizations doing violence (eg: ice, the Republican party) is lending support to horrible people, so I’m not keen on that. I can see wanting to keep it from turning into revenge porn, or wanting to avoid drawing the attention of the state.

“No personal attacks on members” was a rule on a place I used to post. Was pretty nice, usually.

      1. Who gets to wield the censorship sword by deciding what is “openly right wing”?

      2. If it’s already against ToS, why not pursue that avenue of recourse?

      3. I rather like that their speech isn’t censored, it makes them easier to spot and ignore. It’s not my responsibility to engage with them, it’s your responsibility to know they’re full of shit and act accordingly.

Only time I’ve ever really felt bans were justified is threats of violence and spamming.

otherwise, let users figure shit out themselves.

I don’t believe in social policing on the internet, or even in real life. the irony of it is the people who go around rigidly trying to do it to others, usually are the ones who are deathly afraid it will be done to them.

nothing can really hurt me online so I don’t see anything as. I just want the ability to 100% control my own experience which means being able to block anything and everything. no script is the way I like to browse the web.
