Their style has been compared to Gil Scott-Heron’s, and thus indirectly to the forefathers of hiphop The Last Poets, from whom GSH borrowed his approach (by having been to one of their concerts and asking if he could start an act like theirs). Which is kind of funny because both The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy and TLP are linked to William S. Burroughs: TDHoH made an album with him, while TLP had a couple albums produced by Bill Laswell, who put out ‘Seven Souls’ with Burroughs’ narration. In both cases, I have to wonder if Burroughs ever saw the artists or just mumbled his stuff into a tape recorder.
