I’ve been doing not great lately, and one thing that keeps coming up in my head is one of the beliefs I hold on to, to try and stay sane.
It’s not really a belief…I don’t know if I truly believe it. It is a coping mechanism tho, which at least partially prevents me from going completely crazy…
Does anyone else tell themselves that they’ll be born cis in the “next life”?
For me personally, I mean a cis woman. And with that, all of the things I’ll get to experience that I can’t now (a normal female puberty at the right time, periods, pregnancy, hopefully attracting way more cis men…)
I don’t even know if I believe in reincarnation, but I still hold onto this thought, this hope for dear life. I guess it’s a justification of some sort? Because to be honest…I’d do anything, and I mean really anything to be cis. But I can’t, of course.
This probably doesn’t make sense, but it does kinda help sometimes. I don’t even know why I’m writing this. I guess…I’d just like other people’s opinion on this. Do you have anything similar?
Edit: I’m sorry. Really. Yesterday, for some reason I decided to take oral prog (bad idea), which made me drunk for about 2 hours and then it made me a depressed, dysphoric, crying mess (as it does every time). On top of that, for some reason I decided to watch the trailer for the upcoming anime, Just Like Mona Lisa…
Any cis person would be like “Oh yeah, cool new anime, people are born genderless and then at 12 choose their own puberty?”, but…I’m not cis and in the state I was in…it sent me straight into a spiral. The whole concept still makes me dysphoric af, but I really wanna see it…
I haven’t watched anime in years. I’m curious how this one turns out…even if I die from dysphoria in the process 😆
Thanks everyone! You’re all so sweet. Way too sweet. I don’t deserve you 😭 Thanks for being so kind to me 🩵🩷🤍🩷🩵
Edit2: I read the manga, all in one sitting. It gave me some much needed exposure, and for some reason, facing the pain head-on helped relieve the bad feelings. I’m actually surprised how much it helped and how much I enjoyed the piece itself.
Huh. Didn’t expect that to work. I fully expected a breakdown and lots of crying. There was some tearing up…but I feel much better now. Now I’m not scared of the anime in the slightest. Looking forward to it.
This probably doesn’t make any sense, I get it. Just…treat this as a mad ramble 😆
I love y’all. Thank you 💜
I can’t say I’ve ever thought that way, but it’s probably mostly harmless if it helps in difficult times.
That said, reincarnation is not a guarantee, so in my opinion, try to learn to make the most of what you do have or can have now, it’s the only life you know you’ve got for sure, don’t lose sight of that on a dream that it might be better next time.
Or, as a bad analogy, don’t spend all your savings on lotto tickets, hoping you’ll win big one day, since it will probably never happen.
Also, hugs, and sorry to hear you’re struggling a bit right now, this stuff can be really hard, for sure.
Our therapist said that in general coping mechanisms are unhelpful in the long term and it is more useful to have coping strategies.
However, we understand, it’s hard being trans. We recommend seeking community and listening to some of their strategies, or merely just offloading emotions in places designed for that.
We do hope you will be okay and that you can find some solace that it does get easier, if not better.
Thanks. Sorry for the negativity, but the only thing that seems to work consistently is drugs. And I ran out of everything.
All of my posts, up to and including my last outfit posts, those were during the time I was taking kratom. I’m all out now and I don’t want to continue, but it really let me focus on the good stuff instead of the bad.
I just can’t find a healthy coping strategy and bupropion isn’t doing shit for me. Weed is the “least destructive” option, but I can’t get my hands on any. I’m losing hope.
Sorry for being so negative. But thanks anyway ♥️
You do not need to apologise to us for being negative. 💜 We understand.
Hmm, we hope you can get some helpful drugs. However, we suggest seeking community offline and going out, that may help at least a little. We find our mood is improved when we do such things and have others around us to help or enjoy things with.
I’ll try…it’s hard. All my friends have lives and are busy. I’m just…rotting away, slowly.
Thank you for the kind words 🩷

Thank you. I don’t ever take a drug without studying up on it 😆.
Really, thanks ❤️
kratom
had to look up what kratom is. apparently it’s a type of plant that comes from south-east asia (malaysia) and when taken in low doses, it is stimulating (less exhaustion, better mood, less pain). so a bit like cocaine but with less addiction potential, apparently.
[german] https://www.eve-rave.org/drogen-abc/naturdrogen/kratom/
so a bit like cocaine
It’s not tho.
I mean, I’ve never had cocaine, but kratom works on opioid receptors, despite not being an opioid. (I think) that’s why it makes…simply existing pleasurable? You forget all of the pain, dysphoria and generally bad stuff? Or at least it works that way for me…I don’t want to get back into it. It is addicting, and I’ve heard horror stories. It wreaks havoc upon my digestive system, which certainly doesn’t make my life any easier. And also, it makes my sleep completely unrestful, which is just…bad.
Also, I already take cyproterone (liver strain) and bupropion (seizure risk, kratom lowers the seizure threshold). It’s great every now and then, it makes the world and my existence blissful and my dysphoria simply vanish, but taking it as often as I did (two teaspoons a day) is terrible (even though some people take 50g A DAY , which, how do they even do that? 😭).
All in all, I recommend it in moderation. Don’t do drugs of course.
Thank you for sharing this with us! You are amazingly brave and a hero to yourself! 🩷
It makes perfect sense to me, and I don’t even think it’s a trans specific phenomenon. Dreaming about becoming something that you otherwise know to be unachievable is normal for all humanity, if you ask me.
Now, to be trans specific: you are not at all alone in this. I’ve lost count of how many times I dreamt of being born a cis girl, with all that it entails. Sometimes, I don’t want to wake up from those dreams, because I know what awaits when I go back to reality. I keep dreaming about being reborn into the prettiest girl in the world, wearing the princessiest dresses, free from the toxic masculinity that is violence, rudeness, loudness, whathaveyou (this is what I was subjected to, sorry for the generalization).
cw: gatekeeping cis women
Typically/ironically/whatever, cis women either become genuinely offended or act as such on the very rare occasions that I open up about my innermost dreams, saying, “you know nothing of our pain, the misogyny, the oppression, bla bla bla”. Yes, I do. We do. We are not oblivious to what it means to be born with a vulva, raised as a girl, enduring living as a woman. I have dedicated a great deal of time and energy to studying the matter. Fuck you gatekeepers.
I don’t know if I believe in anything after death. I don’t dare to believe. What if I’m wrong. But I do hope. Hope is everything, sometimes.
Regardless of what you can or cannot achieve, you are valid. Always. You are pretty. Always. Hug yourself. Goodnight. 🩷🩵🤍
Thanks. I guess it really is a human thing after all…

No actually, that isn’t a bad way to put it. I feel the exact same way…
To be socialized like a girl from the beginning, if my mom actually taught me makeup, skincare and haircare without forcing me to cut it all short right away…I probably would be a different person (in a good way).I hate toxic masculinity. I hate how everpresent it is, that I was exposed to it…I hate that I was born this way. I hate what puberty did to me.
I’m really sorry. I hope reincarnation is real, because the existential dread otherwise, the thought of this is it gets to be too much…
Thank you for being so kind. Please take care of yourself 💜
I think that if you use this belief to be kind to yourself and others in order to score points for any potential do-over it could be relatively harmless. For what it’s worth in my experience life got a lot better once I hit my stride in my late 20s.
Much love I hope you feel better soon.

I hope I experience something similar…even a bit later is fine, I just want to know that it gets better.
Thanks, kind stranger 💜
Ok. I’m going to post a link to something here. It’s from the old Trans Girl Diaries webcomic. Warning, it’s extremely triggering. I post this only as an example of how these thoughts you are having are not unique. Warning, depictions of suicide. This was made back in 2011.
(Sorry for the imgur link. Couldn’t figure out how to post an image with a spoiler tag.)
I post this only as an example of how these thoughts you are having are not unique
I see. This is kind of triggering, but also, I really wish it worked this way. And I’m sorry I’m not the only one with these thoughts. I wouldn’t wish them on anyone…
The same with being trans, unfortunatelycw: responding to your image
uhh … i understand the image quite well but i’m not sure about it … i think that i disagree.
there is a ban on suicide for a reason. if you kill yourself, that means that you signal to the universe that you don’t want to exist, so you don’t get reborn. so this wouldn’t actually work the way that the author intended at all.
cw: responding to your response! CW as it’s all musings on the ethics of the afterlife and suicide.

Eh, it all depends on how you assume reincarnation works. Maybe suicide is morally wrong; maybe it just isn’t. Maybe karma exists and affects what your next life is; maybe karma doesn’t exist and it’s just a random spin of the wheel no matter how you live your previous life. Maybe there’s only one soul, and that soul bounces back and forth forward and backwards in time, eventually living every human life from the beginning of time to the end of time. Maybe karma does exist, but the grand cosmic ledger sees suicide as a likely outcome for certain lifetimes and doesn’t punish souls for it. If 41% of trans people attempt, well, it seems pretty cruel for the universe to punish people for an outcome the universe itself made extremely likely in the first place.
It’s like God making people gay and then punishing them for it. I just can’t believe in such a deity. At some point the core idea of reincarnation - a grand cosmic balancing of good and evil - just stops making sense when you’re punishing people for actions they ultimately had little control over. I personally don’t see anything wrong with say, assisted suicide. I refuse to believe in any model of the afterlife that punishes people simply for opting out of a slow and agonizing death. If there’s a god, and that god gives you the choice, “suffer painfully for a years-long slow drawn-out death or end your life early and be punished with hell/negative reincarnation,” I would consider such a god to be evil. If anyone believes in a god that makes people trans and then punishes them for it? I would say they’re worshiping the devil. I cannot believe in an evil god or an evil system of reincarnation. It just violates the entire core premise of their being some final cosmic righting of wrongs and a grand reckoning of good and evil. If I’m going to believe in an afterlife, it has to be one where people who do evil in this life cannot escape the consequences of it, and people who tried to live good live aren’t punished for things beyond their control.
I just have a real hard time with any religious model that punishes people for suicide. People either commit suicide to avoid a certain and terrible fate, (like assisted suicide after a terminal diagnosis), or they commit suicide when they’re literally not of sound mind. In most cases, it seems to me that the “not guilty by reason of insanity” idea would apply.
I can imagine a few rare scenarios where suicide would be worthy of punishment. For example, maybe when a school shooter kills themselves to keep from being arrested. Or maybe if you committed suicide as a deliberate act of malice? Maybe then it would be worthy of punishment. Like imagine if someone had such strong hate for their ex that it literally was greater than their will to live. They want to hurt someone more than they want to keep on living. Maybe they go to their ex’s home, wait til they open the door, pull out a gun and blow their own head off right in front of them, their brain spattering all over them. All done with the sole intention of causing deep lifelong trauma to the other person. Suicide as an act of deliberate malice. Those are the only kinds of odd scenarios where I can see suicide as being worthy of punishment. Suicide not as an act of individual despair, but out of a deliberate intention to hurt others. But someone simply doing it out of hopelessness, loss, and pain? I cannot believe in any religion that would punish people for doing that. At some point the arbiters of cosmic justice would have to ask, “they were already in so much pain that they literally ended their life, with no guarantee that anything would come after. Haven’t they suffered enough?”
It’s definitely not stupid. It’s a nice hope to have. And no one knows what comes after so why not hold onto that if it’s something that helps you navigate this life in a positive manner. It’s literally not hurting anyone.
Personally, I don’t believe that anything comes after this life and that our consciousness is nothing more than an evolutionary trait that hominids developed to gain an advantage for survival. Therefore I have to keep my momentum going to make this life and whatever time so have left in it something that is worth enduring and enjoying. Grieving the life we didnt get to have when its appropriate, but recognizing that no one gets to have exactly the life that they want. At the same time, transitioning gives us an incredible opportunity to right some of those wrongs, perhaps more so than most cis-people get. In that way, I view transitioning, with all of its peaks and pitfalls, as an incredible gift. But I’ve also had an incredibly priveledged transition so I understand if other folks don’t view it that way.
I don’t regret starting HRT, not for one moment. And I realize, I am incredibly privileged to start when I did.
Even so, I know it won’t make me cis. I’ll never stop wishing for that…Anyway, I should probably start working on myself. All I’ve done is sit here and whine. I should work on my voice and hair more.
Thank you Cily 🩷
I had a delusional dream of cloning a female version of me using my father’s X chromosome essentially just literally the female me. I was then going to use an array of gold nanowires implanted into both our brains from birth to allow our brains to act as one. Then when my body died I’d carry on in the body I was meant to have.
Realising that I’d never be able to fund such a project and that i would have to take the life of a newborn was difficult for me. Because im 90% sure it can be done. These thoughts were pretty frequent and occured when I was still an egg. I’ve since given up on that, but now I have a masters in a biomedical field.
Then when my body died I’d carry on in the body I was meant to have
🥲
I get that. I really do…
This isn’t the same at all, but I’ve had thoughts of now-me and cis-me being in the same room…at least I could see how far off I am right now (way off, I know).I’m sorry you’re having thoughts like that, I really am. Being trans sucks, at least that’s how I view it…
I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone, not even my ex-BFF who told me this was my choice (the motherfucker…).I’m really sorry
but now I have a masters in a biomedical field.
how many people, do you think, came before you, who had that exact story to tell?
i feel like we’re standing on the shoulders of giants
I do not believe in another life or reincarnation, but to some extent (it is not a belief, nor a religion) I think we possibly live in a multi-verse, where all the potential outcomes exist, and our universe is just one of them.
While in the egg, i was telling myself that a cis (woman) of myself existed in such a universe, and I wished I could trade place…
In retrospect, I find hard to believe that I used all those small coping mechanisms but only realised later that I was a trans-woman… the mourning that took place later when I realised I was really a woman, just in the wrong body, was HARD.
You don’t even need to invoke the multiverse or alternate timelines/realities. This is possible in just our own one physical universe.
To the limits of our measurement, space-time has a flat (0) curvature. If it has a positive curvature, if you traveled in a straight line long enough, eventually you would end up back where you started. Such a universe would be without border but still finite in size. Negative curvature has its own properties. But to the limits of our measurements, the universe has a flat curvature.
What this means is that to the limit of our measurement, the universe isn’t just large, but truly infinite. It literally goes on forever. Now, only a tiny fraction of that infinity is within our light cone. Most of this infinite universe is receding from us faster than the speed of light, so we can never interact with it.
But…a universe that is truly spatially infinite has some of the same properties as an infinite multiverse. If you could travel faster than light and survey an arbitrarily large volume, weird stuff would start to happen. Travel far enough out, and you’ll find a copy of yourself. Down to the exact same genetics. Travel further still, and you’ll find an exact atom-for-atom duplicate of the Solar System, including all the people currently living in it. There are an incredible number of ways to arrange the amount of atoms that make up a star system, but not an infinite number. And in infinite space, eventually you do get duplicates. Travel much further still, and you’ll find an entire duplicate copy of our observable universe.
So, look up at the night sky. If the universe truly is infinite, there is another copy of you out there, born on an otherwise identical Earth, that is the same as you except was born cis. And if you had a fast enough space ship, you could fly out to meet them. In fact, there are an infinite number of copies of you.
Things get weird when you invoke true spatial infinity.
(Now, as far as just how far you would have to travel to find a duplicate Solar system, some quick searching turned up an estimate of 1010115 meters. The diameter of the observable universe is about 10^27 meters. “Astronomical” does not even begin to describe these distances.)
In retrospect, I find hard to believe that I used all those small coping mechanisms but only realised later that I was a trans-woman
uhh … it always seems to obvious in the retrospect. but don’t be too hard on yourself for not figuring it out earlier, you probably didn’t even know that the possibility existed so how could you have guessed it?
we’re sometimes very blind towards options that we don’t even consider possible in the first place. which makes us blind. but alas, what to do about it?
(how many other things are there that we simply haven’t thought about yet?)
I believe that one does not know what is in the great thereafter. But if there is something, I’ve always taken to liking reincarnation, and that I have been there as a cis gal multiple times as well. I know that whichever way fate leads, ours is now to make.
Personally, I’ve definitely grieved on this. I’ve wept many times at the fact that I can’t give my husband children. I think if I had been born cis, and we had somehow still met, we would probably be on kid 3 or 4 by now. I probably would have ended up going down the stay-at-home mom route.
Part of me wants to believe that it’s OK. I want to believe we’ve met each other in countless lifetimes and have had many families together, and will do so again in the future. We truly are soulmates. We’re that close. So it’s not hard to imagine. It makes the limitations of this life a bit more bearable if they’re merely a blip in a long history spanning across countless lifetimes. It’s not “we don’t get to have kids.” It’s “we don’t get to have kids this go around.”
I don’t know if I even believe in reincarnation, but the thought does help me sometimes.
I think if I had been born cis, and we had somehow still met, we would probably be on kid 3 or 4 by now. I probably would have ended up going down the stay-at-home mom route
I feel the exact same way. I don’t think I could put it any better.
It makes the limitations of this life a bit more bearable if they’re merely a blip in a long history spanning across countless lifetimes. It’s not “we don’t get to have kids.” It’s “we don’t get to have kids this go around.”
This is actually exactly what I do. To the letter. It still breaks my heart, but it makes the pain easier to bear…
Thanks for your kind words ❤️
my opinion is that at the very least, in your next life you’ll be able to start HRT earlier, so that’s probably just-as-good.
In my next life, I’m starting DIY at 12 and having a normal female puberty without any damage from T…I don’t even care what anyone thinks or does. Screw them. I’m not wasting any time.
You’re not alone. I do this too, in a slightly different way. I’m too skeptical to be religious or believe in reincarnation, but if any religion were real, I’m drawn to Norse paganism, because some of the ordinary people who don’t die fighting or meet the conditions of other afterlives get to become spirits of the land they live on. The body and soul are separate things in that religion, so it’s said that your soul leaves and you take on a new form after death. And for me, that could be something like a cis body.
I don’t actually believe it, but I do hope I’m wrong about the nothingness of death. When things get really bad, I think a lot about haunting a forest I live near when I die, just existing invisibly, peacefully alone there and sometimes helping people who get lost. Life can be really awful sometimes and I’ve found myself thinking more about what comes next. It’s hard not to these days, with the absolute cosmic unfairness of our circumstances.
I don’t know if that’s healthy either, and my interest in Norse mythology definitely might be an outcropping of really, this is the only life I get? The one where no one understands my womanhood and I’m always under threat for it? I think right now it’s a fun hobby and comforting thoughts during hard times. I don’t see myself ever getting lost in those thoughts or, like, joining some sort of cult that tells me what I want to hear.
So I’m just trying to live my life while I have it. Most people won’t understand me, and peace isn’t something I’ll ever fully get in my lifetime. But I make my own peace in nature hiking in forests, spending time with my wife, living authentically, and anything else that helps me find happiness before I die.
Does anyone else tell themselves that they’ll be born cis in the “next life”?
cw ?????
sometimes that i will just die in any possible way …
I wasn’t gonna say it, but…
CW: suicide
Yes, sometimes it gets that bad. Sometimes I’d rather risk reincarnation than continue to live this way. If this is all there is to life, why continue? Why even bother? I’ll never be cis anyway, so I’d rather gamble everything on being born again or just die.
cw ??????
awawawwaawwaawaw usually that not exact sh/suicide, but realization that being alive is temporary and i will die anyway i have a ton mental(physical??*) strugglessss im finally doesnt have dysmorphobia/dysphoria problems i dont really mind cis, pass fck it all
*fibromyalgia is weirdddd basically physical health is perfect, but CNS being dumbb
sometimes i have desire do drugs huh

If you’re at the point considering that, I hope you have access to a therapist or an IRL support network. Being trans can be a nightmare, but I’m sure there are people who love and care about you if you were gone. And we’d miss your posts here as well. But I do understand and relate, and occasionally have those thoughts too. I really hope you hold on.
If reincarnation is real, one of the beliefs around it is that the next form you take depends on your positive or negative actions here in this world, which could be any gender or any living creature from human to mouse to single-celled organism. If I wanted the best chance possible to reincarnate into a cis woman, I’d dedicate my life to living authentically as a woman in this life, and try my best to add brightness, empathy, and happiness to the people around me, and fight hard to find joy, even when sometimes I know it can be hard to even get out of bed in the morning.
Just something to think about. We’re here for you, to the extent that we can be on an internet forum, and many of us share your struggle. <3
