I had a customer drop off their PC for service and they had the “all-in” setup- everything in Windows signed in, opted in to everything imaginable, including the phone link app.
While I worked on their PC I got copies of every phone notification, as well as the ability to act on those notifications. I saw every SMS his wife sent him. Everything. Just pop-up notifications in my face. Very nearly hit the “activate alarm” button for their home security system multiple times.
If you use this, you are the absolute bottom of the barrel- the dumbest buffoon to have ever existed. If you use Window’s “phone link” app, you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself.
I can already do this from my phone with all of my Linux machines
It’s called SSH
I don’t want this kind of connectivity between my phone and PC courtesy of MS.
I already have it via VPN and just use either RDP or (like you) SSH. It’s easy to send a “shutdown -r -f -t 0”
Hell, I have shortcuts on my phone to reboot my personal machines - laptops, VM’s, even my ESXi host.
MS over here acting like we haven’t been able to do this for years with off-the-shelf tools.
Also, who shuts down boxes these days? That’s what power management is for. If you left it on, I assume you wanted it on.
