Police stormed a quiet Gelderland village in response to the shooting and officials have yet to release details on what triggered the overnight violence.
Also a person died, supposedly someone hired to guard the house. The house was targeted before, seemingly because of a connection with organised crime. Supposedly the biggest Dutch drug criminal lost €800M and blames this guy.

Dutch politicians have often laughed away foreign accusations of being a narco state, but in truth the Netherlands’ problems with organized crime and drug trafficking are becoming harder and harder to ignore. This incident puts the spotlight on a problem that is probably only going to get worse in the foreseeable future.

Based on what I can find, crime rates have actually dropped significantly since the start of the century (2000: 90 crimes per 1000 residents, 2025: 45 crimes per 1000 residents).
Drug related offences in The Netherlands are three times as low compared to Germany, and five times as low as France per 100k residents.
Homicide rate has dropped significantly for all three countries. In 2023, the homicide rate in The Netherlands was 0.3 per 100k residents, while Germany scored 0.5 and France had the most with 0.8 residents per 100k residents. Just for comparison, the US has 5.8 homicides per 100k people.
This particular shooting is linked to the famous criminal Bolle Jos, who is hiding in Africa and is very much on the radar of the Dutch investigation and intervention unit.
