Although I just figured out today that both versions were produced by Norman Whitfield, who also co-wrote the song. He was a resident producer at Motown at that time. So he basically re-recorded the song changing the bands — but also The Temptations’ album version is much longer than the one with The Undisputed Truth.
I’ve gone into a little trip, listened to this version and it got me intrigued about the band. I already knew The Temptations but scattered through soul compilations and general music culture. They have performed in various styles or genres but my favorite is probably the style they play on this song.
By way of the internet I found myself listening to Psychedelic Soul where this 12m version is also featured.
