There actually is kind of a thing for doing this.
It’s called a popcorn cannon.

I always thought puffed rice and stuff was from cooking and freeze drying or deep frying or something.
Never cared enough to look into it, but TIL.
Wild. I think I’m going to leave that technique to the street vendors. No way that isn’t a little dangerous.
I imagine the pressure wave of the first pop will likely trigger nearby kernels to pop, causing a popping cascade like what happened with the submerged glass vacuum photomultiplier tubes at the Super-Kamiokande neutrino detector on 2001-11-12.
I thought about the exact same thing. Exactly like Super-Kamiokande.
(A guy who thought us about Super-Kamiokande and neutrinos at my university showed us his photos with Bruno Pontecorvo taken at some ski resort in Soviet Union after Pontecorvo defected to USSR and the whole world was trying to figure out where he was. He worked on Manhattan project and allegedly help Russians build their atomic bomb. He never admitted to working on it but he did come up with the theory of neutrino oscillation which was later proven by Super-Kamiokande.
My other professor played basketball with Fidel Castro.)
Someone has to have tried throwing a handful of kernels into magma before, right? Or at the very least been very irresponsible with a blast furnace?

Yeah, I looked it up after my comment and was incredibly disappointed.
It would take a real genius to make this happen.
I saw the picture, read the first few words, and thought it was gonna go “every piece of popcorn is literally the same shape and size,” but the actual outcome was much more satisfying imo
