This pull request was merged a couple weeks ago that subtly renders street lamps as “a simple dot with halo”. Stable versions of Carto seem to be released roughly twice a year, and this one just missed the latest cutoff (v6.1.0 was released three weeks ago). Still, if you don’t typically add street lamps because they don’t show up on e.g. Carto, now’s a good time so they show up on the next release.
For those unfamiliar with the name, Carto is the default rendering style you see at openstreetmap.org.
I’ve mapped close to 4000 of these in my home county over the last month or so. I’m excited!
However, I read in the OSM Discord server (and it wasn’t a majority of people saying it) that you’re supposed to add the street lamp node at the light source, not the pole in the ground. That doesn’t make much sense to me, but if true, I may have done a LOT of them wrong.
Fuck yeah, I mapped dozens of them at my old apartment just for completeness, I can’t wait to see what it looks like with them all.
