I’m designing a meme tarot deck: majors are memes, courts are wojaks, and pentacles are (probably) bitcoin. What other internet culture objects / symbols could stand in for the other suits?
- Wands: (staves / clubs) Fire; energy, ambition, creation
- Cups: (chalices / hearts) Water; emotion, connection, intuition
- Swords: (knives / spades) Air; thought, conflict, communication
cups: cat pics
Wands: uploads, posts
Swords: hacks, downloads
ooooooh updoot button yeah. Or I could leave hearts as hearts for like buttons.
2 girls 1 cups.
Oh wow this has promise.
Check out the Rider Waite deck for the types of things you can put on the minor arcana cards: https://www.tarot.com/tarot/decks/rider
As for the suits, how about:
- Wands: smartphones, used by normies
- Swords wielded by “I studied the blade”-style neckbeards or anime weebs
- Coins: RAM sticks, owned by techbros and hacker-types
- Cups used by onlyfans-style influencers
Smartphones are air, swords. Neckbeards are passionate, so wands.
Well obvs RWS. Thoth would not translate nearly as well into rage comics. The history of the rider Waite deck also meshes so uniquely into novelty images mass produced by the major communication media of their era. I feel like I gotta go bold on the imagery though she didn’t make those coins and cups comically large for the depth and subtlety of the message.
