that’s hilarious.
things have come a long way in the last 5 years or so. i have a lot of bad things to say about Samsung software but updates/support is good now. that being said, I’m on a pixel as a primary device at the moment so YMMV
Well, I gave up after 2 phones and 1 tablet with no updates. Peak planned obsolescence seemed to be the way they ran their business and they lost me as a customer permanently. Their appliances are even worse.
When was that. I tried Samsung with the s5, s7 edge, and then went to one plus for awhile. The s5 and s7 edge were never great and we’re laggy. I’ve now had an s21+ for over two years and the experience has been great. I’m pretty sure I’ll get another 2 years out of this phone before I upgrade.
Note10 back about 2015, I think the phones were S3 and S4. There may have been an update or two but it was such a massive pain in the ass to find and install them without borking the phone, I just went to Cyanogenmod until the phones died. CM (eventually Lineage) was awesome about updates. If that Note10 ever had an update released, I never found it, and I even emailed Support a few times about it.
Same with a smartTV of theirs, never got an update on the shit operating system, plugged in a XBM/kodi netbook and been on that ever since. On the plus side, that TV has lasted a decade, unlike any of their appliances I bought at the same time. I was a real Samsung fanboi and now I won’t even bother looking at them.
Regardless of if you want to game alot or have a daily driver phone, the Samsung will be a better overall fit
The battery life is my main concern. Also not a fan of the pen and lack of headphone jack with the samsung, nor am I going to use all the cameras it has.
If it’s battery life, then you can blindly go with the ROG, it has the best (longest lasting) battery in the market

I don’t know the ROG Phone 6, so can’t comment on that, but I have an S23 Ultra since Feb.
It’s a great all rounder IMO, runs super smoothly. But there are two things I like the most, the battery life (epic) and the cameras are very very good (I know you said you don’t care though…).
One other thing to keep in mind is that this will get Android updates up to 2027 and security updates until at least 2028, if you care about keeping it for a while.
I didn’t even know Asus made an ROG phone…neat.
do you want to primarily game on it or do you want it to be a great phone that can game? both are good options but we need to know use case to help make a good decision.

My S22 Ultra is probably the worst phone I’ve had in the last 14 years. I’ll never buy another Samsung again.
It’s slow and laggy way too often and some major bugs aren’t fixed for months.
Europe?
I’m on a Nothing Phone 1 which I can’t recommend highly enough especially given the price, though I’ll probably be updating day-one to the Nothing Phone 2 when that’s released early next month. The NP1 is more mid-range though.
Don’t get the S23 because it had the Exynos processor and it was terrible! Very bad reviews.
Either get the S23 because it has Snapdragon or the Asus. Asus also makes the Zenphone 9 and soon will release the 10. The 9 has excellent reviews. I think MKBHD even said it was his best 2022 phone.
I’d take the Asus over the Samsung. Samsung phones are bloated and laggy almost as a rule. Also their UI is fucky and a pain to swap. I have a 8.3 5g as well and part of what I love is that there isn’t any bloat or fuss. You might also consider Sony for a similar experience to that.
That rule may have used to be true for Samsung. But I have had a s21+ since it came out. Before that I had 3 different one plus phones. This phone has been the best Android experience I’ve had and it still runs great. Also Samsung has one of the best promises to continue updating their phones for a long time which is great. I wouldn’t count Samsung out these days. Sure there’s a bit much bloat when you first set it up but I just disable all the apps I’m never going to use.
Every time I’ve had someone say that all the bloat and slowness issues on Samsung have been solved, it hasn’t been the case. Maybe that’s finally, finally the actual case. But I’m a little skeptical of the claim as it’s been bunk in the past.
This isn’t a Samsung exclusive thing, but the unremovable disabled apps always bug me. Why does the app have to stay? What is it doing while it is “disabled”? I think it has to be doing something otherwise they’d let me delete it. I’m too cynical too believe it’s not doing something.
And I’m not sure if this is also still the case, but the Samsung UI was a royal pain to remove/replace without rooting the device. Like if I wanted to use Nova it wouldn’t work right without rooting. Is that still the case?
I like that my Nokia had none of these issues from the start and while I started on android 10, I’m on 12 now with the latest security update. If they’d make a good successor to the 8.3 5g I’d stick with them but they are shifting focus to mid low range so they don’t have a solid mid-high end right now.
I got a different launcher the day I got the phone. Samsung ui has a decent amount of customization available now too and the routines page in settings is basically a root level iftt which can be very helpful. The UI is slightly ugly (notification shade) but other than that it’s been pretty great. I hate to be a Samsung shill but honestly it’s a solid phone these days.
