Welcome to lemmy.world/c/freemasonry
Feel free to introduce yourself and say hello!
Greetings to all of you from Pennsylvania! As this is the internet, remember you don’t have to be completely specific as to your identity. Remember that this is not a tyled lodge, the community is open to all.
Moderation will be limited, please keep posts related to Freemasonry. I will also add a few other mods when the time comes.
Thanks for joining us!
Well as Reddit is dark I thought I’d pop my head round the door. UGLE here, and my username here is the same as Reddit. I assume you’re running this instance DukeThorion
Just the community for FM, not all of lemmy.world. Welcome!
That’s not what I was suggesting. It doesn’t matter. I’m struggling with this actually - the responsiveness of the servers is really up and down on my end - I keep getting logged out for one thing. Clearly that’s a consequence of various communities in here exploding in the last day or so…
I’ve had a few bugs as well as issues, but they seem to be making a lot of progress as they go. Today is essentially Reddit protest day, so all known servers are going to be under stress.
Something I just noted. I have no clue as to whether this is a feature or a bug but some communities are duplicated across different servers - there are several ‘Technology’ for example, and I’ve seen some others - they’re clearly not just mirrors or something because the subscriber numbers are wildly different.
As I understand it the Lemmy rules state that you’re supposed to check before you create a community, but clearly if you originate it on a different server to the existing one that duplication is allowed. I only mention it because its probably worth keeping an eye out for other ‘Freemasonry’ communities popping up, so we can let them know that this one already exists…
I think that’s a feature rather than a bug? It would be unwieldy to make people check every Lemmy instance for duplicate communities, but I’ll be interested to see how that works out over time since (as you noted) we can look at and join communities outside our home instances
The prevailing sentiment is that is a little disorganized, but by design. While there may be several of a certain topic, people will gravitate to wherever has the most content and interaction.
Warm fraternal greetings from the Grand Lodge of Scotland! 🏴
Are you open for visits in July? I’m going to Edinburgh and I’m planning on going to the museum.
Most lodges go dark in the summer as far as I can tell, but it would probably be possible to visit a local lodge if you reached out to them. I don’t live in Edinburgh so I’m not sure of who a good one to reach out might be, but you could get in touch with the Grand Lodge and see if they have suggestions

Warm fraternal greetings from the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the oldest grand lodge in the western hemisphere (despite what PA and VA might say).
Greetings from the Grand Lodge of Indiana (USA).
I am a current Master of the Lodge (5-time Past Master). Former Secretary.
I’m a warm body in a small town, and I know some ritual, so I’m in high demand. 😊
Welcome! It’s pretty inactive in here after the initial Lemmy migration died out, but glad to have you!
Hi, I am an Italian entered apprentice, recently initiated. Glad to see a port of r/freemasonry here in the fediverse. Hope to see many brothers join here in the next future.
I’m here from AF&AM of IA. PM, Treas, YR, former AMD.
Back again with a public service announcement of sorts. Some enterprising soul is streaming from Twitch with a ticker showing which Reddit subs have gone dark - as of right now it is 8472 of the biggest 8838. I think the company is going to notice that, as are their prospective investors…
Agreed, but only if they stay dark. If they come back after a prescribed time, it doesn’t change anything. Reddit will call their bluff, I think.
A further PSA - it looks like Reddit are removing mods from some of the popular subs and replacing them with staffers. OK, you might say, but this has serious implications for r/Freemasonry because it implies that they were deadly serious when they said they would remove API access to the apps/mod tools developed by third parties unless devs were willing to pay a king’s ransom.
I used to have a 12+ year old account (which I deleted a while ago because I had doxxed myself repeatedly over the years, which was problematic given my day job) and on that account I chatted to the mods infrequently. You know you occasionally see posts from ‘very angry conspiracy theorist #1’ and ‘Illuminati scammer #2’? That’s because they’ve somehow escaped the third party tools that auto-remove and auto-ban 99% of that stuff before we even see it, and it’s likely that none of those tools will be available from next month. What that means is that the sub will effectively become an ungovernable space very quickly indeed, because even if they are working on it full-time the mods will be overwhelmed given the very rudimentary moderation tools offered by Reddit themselves. You can imagine how bad that’s going to get for the bigger subs when the mods jump/are pushed…
It’s beginning to look increasingly like this community is going to be the new home for discussion about the Craft.
So they definitely doubled down on their implosion. I really liked Reddit, but I’m beginning to really like Lemmy also. Watching it grow and expand is like watching the internet get rebuilt to what it used to be, and should have always been.
Hi! Are you using the web or an app?
I use both. Android can use Jerboa (recommend from F-Droid, but also on GPlayStore). It’s still an alpha release. The web “app” through a browser is sufficient as well, the UI isn’t great in my opinion, but it is functional.
Ok, thank you for your answer. I’m on a iPhone. Haven’t found an app, yet. I agree that the UI is not the best, but I suppose the more people use it, the better it will get.
