Murder, She Wrote premiered—and the world was introduced to Jessica Fletcher—39 years ago today, on September 30, 1984, with the season 1 episode 1 opener, “The Murder of Sherlock Holmes.” It would be followed by 263 more episodes, four movies, video games, and a series of novels based on the show and its characters that is still in publication today.
