We are hoping to make this the new home for questions in, for and about Germany, in English.
Be nice to one another as we figure stuff out along the way.
Thanks!
Hallo and Hello. /r/AskAGerman sent me here. I think I noticed one or two familiar usernames already.
Just wanted to say “hi” because you sent me here :)
We’ve got one! :D Hey, welcome. I hope we get a nice, if small, thing going here in parallel.
!wiki
Hmm, some work to be done still 😀
I’m not much of a developer unfortunately, and there’s no automod right here… Nor is there a wiki system. But I’m sure that will come over time. Until then we’ll just have to make do with an off-site wiki somehwere.
I am a developer and made already a bot here :) Sadly i cant see a good way to make commands. Or hook on events ( for example on Creation of a comment ;( ) .
But i made already a discord chat to lemmy sync ;) https://lemmy.world/post/434478?scrollToComments=true
I remembered this comment when I saw today that someone had created a Mastodon bot that through the power of federation has visibility of everything posted in a community here.
@[email protected] 2 minutes
did it… (I though it was supposed to be …@botsin.space but that one didn’t see this post)
Yeah of course very bot has the visibility of every federated instance.

Just having set it up is a great start, as you say the rest will come!
Thanks for creating this. Found the way over as well now.
I was a regular in /r/Germany for 11 years. I hope this here will be somewhat of a replacement.
Hello and welcome! Happy to see another familiar name Ü
Sprich deutsch du Hu…oooold it, wrong sub.
Oder ganz was anderes? :D
You sound familiar…
They don’t allow hyphens in usernames, so I had to ditch the life ;-)
Care to join the mod team?
Who needs a life anyway!
Hi, running away from Reddit Germany! They deleted my farewell post because the mods didn’t want the users to say goodbye to their peers.
Hallo! Is this an okay place to ask German language questions as well? Ich lerne…langsam.
There’s also [email protected] on this instance.
You might try these communities instead: https://feddit.de/c/deutsch_lernen https://lemmy.world/c/german . From what I understand this one is more for English language news and discussion about the country, Germany.
Edit: Just saw that a mod further down said they don’t want to necessarily separate discussion about the country Germany and the language German all that much as long as the community is small, so for now you will probably be fine asking here as well if the language-centric communities above are less active.
I promise not to post the near-daily complaint about having to learn gendered pronouns. :-|
Oh certainly, we don’t discriminate ;-)
Hey all, glad to see some familiar names here. This is my first time posting something and I’m hoping this works as my account is on lemmy.world rather than on feddit.de. But apparently that doesn’t matter? Curious to see if this can get off the ground.
Correct, it doesn’t matter on which instance your account is registered, they all interact with one another. Since we are expecting a major influx of users in the next 12-24h it could however mean that individual instances are overloaded, while others work just fine, so I guess in the next few days we all need a little patience :-)
Hi guys!
Is this going to be similar to what r/Germany or r/German was like?
For the time being I don’t want to separate them all that much, given that we have only a handful of users. The initial thought was to make it a mix of Germany and AskAGerman (where language requests were not explicitly discouraged).
But once the userbase is large enough it certainly makes sense to branch out into a separate language channel and maintain this one as a discussion forum for, with and about Germans/Germany.
