He’s not wrong, but he’s hardly a moral authority.
I think climate scientists (and journalists) are underestimating people. If you treat people like children who can’t handle the truth, they will behave like children. Like teenagers, actually, wasting time like it’s in endless supply. Yes, there are plenty of people who prefer denial. But I bet just as many want the truth, painful as it is. We deserve a shot at rising to the occasion.
Americans in particular are the biggest children on the planet. We’ve been treated like children for so long that the entire society is infantile. So, I don’t think climate scientists are underestimating people.
Popes living in glass palaces shouldn’t throw stones. As soon as he gives away all the Church’s wealth to the poor, I’ll care what he has to say about how others live
I find molesting children highly irresponsible, Francis.
China is the largest emitter of greenhouse gasses.

In large part because we’ve offshored all our manufacturing there. They’re still our emissions, even if they’re happening in China. We can’t absolve ourselves that easily
Not per capita. The US, Canada, Australia, and Saudi Arabia are by far much much worse. Pretend each Chinese province is its own country if it makes you feel better. The earth doesn’t care about political boundaries.
Each of those provinces have the same federal Government that makes the rules.
Yes and those rules produce fewer emissions per capita than places like the US. Do you not understand what “per capita” means?
I understand that Saudi Arabia has higher per capita emissions than the US according to the Wikipedia article I linked to. But for some reason the pope is fixated on the west and the US.
For some reason you’re fixated on pretending it’s not the west and US’s problem too. Whataboutism is the refuge of the sycophant.
Good thing we don’t live on the same planet as China, had me worried for a sec.
