U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), Kevin McCarthy’s hand-picked temporary successor and acting Speaker, operated outside of carefully crafted House rules when he evicted Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi and U.S. Rep. Steny Hoyer, the former Democratic Majority Leader, from their Capitol Hill offices just hours after Republicans ousted McCarthy as Speaker. That’s according to the top […]
Republic lawmakers don’t know the law, more news at 11.
“Party of law and order” blatantly flouts the law over and over again.
FTFY
Okay.
Is anyone gonna do anything about it?
Hell no. They’re conservatives. Rules don’t apply to conservatives.
Knowing how the Dems operate…maybe? 🤷
In the vast majority of cases, they do nothing to stop the abuses of the Republicans, but they sometimes make an exception when it’s directly related to their own power and privileges rather than the good of the general population.
They’re probably out of their offices often enough to not really notice a move, so since it’s just going to be a pain in the ass for their staffers they’ll probably leave this at a strongly worded tweet
NP could be a hard ass bitch about it and refuse just on principle and see what happens, or she can just laugh at the pettiness. The first one could blow back on her if they decide this interpretation of the law is incorrect. But it was just such a petty move I can see the best possible response being, “oh, you thought I’d get big mad? I only had that office because it’s close to the food truck on taco Tuesday. Now I’ll just have to sustain myself on your frustrated tears of impotent rage.”
Have the Democrats tried growing a spine?
They flirted with the idea back in the 70s but decided that it wasn’t worth the effort.
No.
Yeah, what a weird move that isn’t outlined in the job description
Would be a really weird inconsistency.
Powers of the interim speaker
- preside over the election of a speaker
- tell representatives to go on vacation
- emperor of offices
I love that the chair is taller than McHenry.
