I feel like I’ve formed some sort of faithfulness towards dbzer0 and have a bias towards subs and users of my instance. Anybody else in the same boat?
I just have biases against other servers. For example, .world users tend to act a lot like redditors which I dislike.
.ml users are more likely to tell me about the glories of communism than any other discussion. Yeah I get it, the ml stands for Marxist-Leninist, great job guys.
.dbzer0 folks are more likely to profess the greatness of FOSS solutions and discuss Linux distros, but I’d rather have that conversation over and over again because it’s usually pleasant and I learn something new every time.
I’ll just apologize in advance.
And here I am, just picking a local instance to support my fellow Canadians.
🏒Taps fellow Canuck
… what are your biases against me? 😅
It’s interesting to see this in open discussion, as it’s something I hadn’t realized I did, but I do.
How many of us just picked the server because we wanted “popular, but not the most popular”? I imagine that attracts a type.
I’d want “bullied hexbear so hard they defederated out of shame” to be our bias if we get to choose. It’s always okay to
punchbully a fascist.Wait, they defederated from us? I thought I was noticing less of their… uh… content around.
Indeed, citing the amount of pushback they received when performing their stated goal of radicalizing people. Shocking, really.
This is wonderful news.
Yup, that was me. Popular enough to stay around, not so popular it’ll get overrun by noobs coming from Reddit.
I feel like it still kinda got overwhelmed due to some instability a month or so back, but it’s been pretty good. I might go elsewhere eventually since it’s getting pretty popular (may even make my own instance), but for now, sh.itjust.works.
Honestly the sh.itjust.works instance is pretty on the level. I don’t find too many antagonistic folks on the instance and the conversations tend to be pretty varied depending on the community. I’ve seen you guys mostly around video game subs.
I picked this instance because the name wasn’t too serious and at the time, it was similarly popular as .world.
I’m really happy I chose shit because world became too popular in my opinion, and the admin here is pretty cool
I wanted an alt on iusearchlinux.fyi but the admin didn’t approve my application :(
That’s so arch linux user of them lmao
This made me laugh out loud
Same. I think it was the third or fourth most popular at the time, so I figured it had a good chance of not getting overwhelmed or falling into obscurity. I switched after the Reddit API announcement, but before the change went into effect, and I’m guessing a lot of others did too.
It still works well, so I stay. I’ll probably move to a smaller instance eventually to help spread the load, but for now, sh.itjust.works.
Yeah better not say anything against dbzer0
I learn mostly about FOSS, Linux, and piracy through you guys. And I thought I was a pretty advanced pirate myself, but you guys are a whole other level at times.
I don’t even know what ml stands for
I just joined this instance as this was maintained by Lemmy devs(I joined before reddit’s enshitification)

Considering slrpnk.net is very niche, and catering to those with a certain mindset, I absolutely do feel some camaraderie with fellow instance-members.
I was shocked to see a solar punk instance. It’s not smth much talked about. And yes I discovered it through Andrewism
Outside of my instance I think slrpnk is one of the coolest. I like all of the efficiency being discussed for being more in tune with the planet and the environment rather than being at odds with it. I get tired of hearing “fuck cars” though. I like 15 minute cities as much as the next guy but I already live in suburban sprawl and it’s not going to go away, so please don’t tell me that my enjoyable automobile is evil.
Not really. I did for a while on Mastodon but then the one I picked announced it was going to shut down. So I left
Well you’re still a brother to me.
Its nice seeing other people from your instance active on here too, a bit like seeing someone unexpected in public.
I don’t think it would be the same kind of feeling if you’re registered on lemmy.ml or lemmy.world though, those instances make up a lot of the userbase and seeing those users is not that rare

Yeah I like being part of .ca and seeing other Canadians around.
Sh.itjust.works has the best damn users in the fediverse. We should have inter-instance contests so we could whoop you guys. Our AI art team is ranked first in the Fediverse.
Does that answer the question?
Ofc your AI art is ranked top, can’t do the real shit can you. Even your instance name reeks of mediocrity.
(I’m sorry i’m new to shit talk and feel rude saying that)
Lol all good. It’s hard for me to talk shit about dbzer0 so we can just call it a stalemate. I appreciate your loyalty to your server because I feel similarly about mine.
Hey wait have we been having a conversation in 2 different posts.
Edit: several threads apparently lol
Yeah, I gotta sleep though. Nice to make your acquaintance
Not really. In fact, I’m only subbed to a handful of the subs on my own instance. I do think it’s run well, so I stick around and will probably throw some money at the admin once I figure out how to do so.
But I don’t care if a community is based on my instance or a different one. In fact just the opposite, I want to sub to communities across lots of instances so I won’t be impacted as much if one goes down.
I joined sh.itjust.works because I wanted an instance that just works, and it has delivered what it says on the tin.
Kind of, but just because I deployed it xP
I guess to some extent. I have a bunch of accounts across instances and sh.itjust.works is the only one that didn’t have excessive down time or other problems when I first came over so I kept using this account. I haven’t touched the other ones in a while.
So I definitely appreciate them living up to their name. I wouldn’t leave without a good reason. But if it started being down all the time I would probably leave. I guess that’s pretty soft loyalty.
Yup, loyalty out of laziness is the best kind of loyalty. It’s why I’ve been on the same Linux distro for several years, it hasn’t pissed me off enough to switch, and my last one did.
I’ve always been a big fan of SDF, and I like their sort of niche community.
Yes, Bc I host mine
I don’t know if it’s loyalty but I get all happy when I see a comment or post by someone on my instance on a community outside my instance.
kbin.social user here and, yeah, a little bit.
Partly because ernest is great and working so hard on making improvements, partly because everyone is so supportive of him. It’s just a friendly instance, mostly. I also moderate the politics magazine (community), so that’s a bit of a factor.
I feel some kinship with my instance just because it’s a niche fandom-based instance, but I wouldn’t hesitate to jump away should there be reason to. In the last few months I jumped from
.ml
to.ca
when redditors started coming here, then from.ca
to here a couple weeks ago.If I moved, it’d have to be to another small, niche interest instance like this. I have an account over on retrolemmy.com for a couple of the communities I made, so maybe I’d set up shop there, depending on what their apparent federation/defederation stances were.
Obviously, it’s the best™
