Steam Deck 3 confirmed
Looks like we’re getting a Steam Deck Chapter 1 instead 🤣
…according to rumors anyways.
Hunt Down the Steam Deck
Valve better have Steam Deck 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc. Valve doesn’t do 3 well
1.3 ya dun goofed!
What’s the current version of SteamOS
We’re doomed! Those fools!

TFW instead of a console and VR headset you get Valve’s worst reviewed game since Artifact
Would have stayed there a few more weeks if they had made it available down under.
Would have stayed UP there a few more weeks if they had made it available down under.
FTFY
Their success is well-deserved. I really hope Valve doesn’t let the momentum slow down though by working with hardware partners and getting SteamOS onto more devices. That’d make the lack of a Steam Deck 2 in the near-term a lot easier to stomach.
I haven’t got one yet, but give me another sale like they just had and I’m straight on it. I’m saving my hard-earned pennies for this!
I pre ordered the 512, mainly because I wanted the screen and at the time the ssd’s were expensive.
Now I would definitely get the 64gb model and just upgrade the ssd for a total of much less money. Even then, you can upgrade the screen for just $100 if you wanted to. You can make a 1TB with the better screen for less than the cost of a 512 and then you’d have a spare screen as well.
I do NOT trust myself not to destroy the device trying to do that. I’ll just wait for a sale and get the 512.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Going over Valve’s own Weekly Top Sellers list from the Steam Deck release up until the week of “Tue, September 26, 2023 - Tue, October 3, 2023”, the Steam Deck was always globally in the top 10, where in that week it hit 11th place and the following week “Tue, October 3, 2023 - Tue, October 10, 2023” it hit 15th place.
Keep in mind Valve’s top seller list is by revenue, not units sold.
Coming up against games that were repeatedly selling in the multiple hundreds of thousands, and in many cases millions, that’s a lot of Linux-powered Steam Decks going out into the hands of gamers.
That’s only globally though, when going to different regions, the Steam Deck is still in the top 10 for some, but the opposite is also true, in some regions it’s also much lower.
Given that handheld PC gaming is still quite a niche overall, with a lot more competition now from other vendors and with rumours swirling of an upcoming refresh, it’s perhaps not surprising to finally see it start to slide down a little.
The Steam Deck only continues to mature and get better over time too, with lots and lots of Proton updates improving game compatibility and SteamOS 3.5 now in Preview, there’s still constant excitement for the Steam Deck.
The original article contains 301 words, the summary contains 220 words. Saved 27%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!
Wasn’t this stat pretty skewed since it measures gross revenue and not units sold? So the Deck had a ~10x advantage over everything else?
Measuring by units would be WAY more skewed. The top 10 would all be free items, or if you exclude those $0.01 items. Measuring gross revenue is much harder to game unless you count “actually selling $500 hardware a lot” as cheating somehow.
I mean normalizing by dollar spent makes the list useful. It’s not a “most units sold” list. It’s a where is everyone spending money list.
I reserved one when they were first announced, but by the time my unit was ready to purchase, it no longer appealed much to me. I spend maybe 5 hours a month gaming since I graduated from uni, so I suspect it would be sitting right next to my Index, which I also have touched in well over a year. Still, I’m glad to see that so many people are enjoying it
Same, the hype wore off eventually. I’d rather buy a Steam Controller 2 than Steam Deck tbh
I somehow ended up with two, one owned by me, and one owned by my company. I love them both.
Love mine
I just got one and love it.

I hope there’s a new version in the next few years and it makes games platform agnostic, at least on the desktop.
I just got mine and I love it. It is so much better than I expected. This is the only way I will game now. My desktop gpu is an rx 470 4gb, so I have about the same power in this handheld mode.
I have been able to emulate almost everything so perfectly, 3ds has some slowdown when it compiles shaders and the switch can do the same. But this is the console/computer I have wanted me entire life.
According to Valve? Any way to verify that? Not that I have anything against Valve or the Deck, just curious.
Cool. Fix the update that just bricked a percentage of decks.
Bricked as in it’s actual meaning of “it’s fundamentally broken and can only be replaced”? Or bricked in the incorrect sense that it works slightly less good?
They installed the BETA branch of steam os and are expecting a flawless experience.
They are complaining about a bug causing the deck to boot loop on verifying install. This can be fixed by simply plugging in an ethernet cord Or reinstalling steam os stable.
I figured as much.
Happened in the prod release too, but carry on.
Has no bearing on my point. If you can fix it, it wasn’t “bricked” in any sense.
Your run of the mill user cannot fix it, therefore it is bricked in the eyes of the general consumer. You could actually fix the red ring of death for Xbox 360’s too, so history kind of invalidates your points as well.
It really doesn’t. Really, you could just say “broken” and be fine, but your insistence on absurd hyperbole is just making any point you’re trying to make forgettable noise.
This can be fixed by simply plugging in an ethernet cord Or reinstalling steam os stable.
UNFORGIVABLE
Can you be more specific? The only thing close to this I can think of is an issue with dual booting decks losing the SteamOS entry in their bootloader.
never heard of this. can you give a little more?
If you updated recently, AND your wifi was toggled off on the next reboot the deck can’t restart into SteamOS. There is a handful of workaround that can fix it in some cases but essentially the Deck requires you to have internet access to verify the installation and if it doesn’t it will just get stuck on this step indefinitely.
Workaround solutions involve tricking it into thinking it is on a known network, ethernet into the dock, etc. Then loading the previous image.
The actual solution is for Steam to skip this verification step unless wifi is on and connected. It has happened in the past and with this being portable device if you happen to be using your deck in a normal way, bringing it with you traveling for example you’re fucked until you get home.
People keep downvoting users reporting issues because people think Valve is above criticism but every forum is the issue is being reported for the past several days.
I’ve just updated and I’m fine. I’m not sure what broke your stuff but I can’t imagine it’s the update.
And this is happening on the BETA channel. If you’re running beta, and you expect no issues, you’re an idiot. If you’re running beta, and you’re unable to investigate those issues and resolve them (Which, as you’ve such a clear, lucid understanding of what’s going on you clearly are able to), then you’re an idiot. If you’ve enabled developer options without understanding tech, and how to fix things yourself, you’re an idiot.
There’s no protecting against idiots, they’re on their own.
The vast majority of people will not see this issue because you have to go out of your way to see this bug.
